Zoloft nightmare

I have been dealing with anxiety and depression issues and my primary care dr prescribed zoloft.  I did not iniitally fill it because i felt I could do better on my own through talk therapy with a therapist.  When i followed up with the doctor i told her that i had issues with memory and concentration and she urged me to take the Zoloft and said it was only 25mg day - nothing to worry about.  I took my first dose Thursday morning and was surprised to see how quickly it worked,  I awoke in the wee hours of the following morning with a rapid heart beat (120 bpm) and very short of breath. I panicked and woke my husband and told him I was having trouble breathing and he called 911 and I was taken to the hospital.  My heart beat came down with the help of Ativan,  I cannot believe that I had such a panic attack.  I contacted my doctor upon discharge and she told me to continue the medication.  Since I started it I feel like my heart has not beat regularly.  I decided today, after three days, to stop it because I could not take the side effects which seemed to worsen each day (panic attacks, insomnia, dizziness, headache, depression, nausea).  I have read again and again that Zoloft can make things worse before it makes things better but I feel like if I kept taking it I would have ended up in a psych ward.  Anyone else have problems taking this?  I am also very annoyed with my doctor because heart palpitations and some of the other effects i have experienced are serious side effects which the manufacturer states are reasons to stop taking it.  Any feedback is appreciated.  Thanks!

Find another doctor. That one is refusing to listen to you.

Thanks for your reply.  I also have a history of heart surgery so  I am sure that affects how sensitive my heart is to meds.

Be firm with your doctor.  You know your body best, not her.  Bring in the documentation that you have and tell her that you WILL NOT take a medication that is going to effect your quality of life poorly.  You DO NOT have to live like this. I have noticed that even medical professionals make mistakes, a lot of them actually.  Go with your gut and intuition with situations like this.  The medication obviosuly isn't a good choice that works with your body's chemistry.  That happens.  If the doctor does not cooperate, tell her that you will be looking for a new doctor.  If I were you, I would schedule an appointment with a new PCP early Monday morning just incase your doctor does not cooperate.
