depression causing pain?

I have had anxiety for a while now and have just recently become depressed about 3 months ago... I get sharp shooting pains on various parts of my body (head, down both arms, both legs, chest).  I was wondering if this is associated with depression?

Hi Steph.
If everything is ok physically then there is a very good chance the depression may be causing the pain.  I have a lot of the same complaints and my Dr. gave me Cymbalta.  It's supposed to help with the depressed feelings and physical pain that may be associated.  I haven't really noticed a huge difference on the emotional side, but physically it has helped a little.
Good luck, and please take care of yourself.

I started therapy when I was a bit younger than you and I can tell you from experience that you may not always click with your first or even second therapist.  Having a relationship with your therapist is a little like connecting with a friend.  I mean, they're not your friend, but if you don't feel like they can relate to you then therapy can become a negative experience.

I have seen a lot of therapists in my life, mainly because I had to go through my county due to lack of insurance and it seemed right when I connected with someone they would transfer.  It was very frustrating.  I did connect with a few, however, and those few were able to educate me about my condition and leave a huge impact on my life.  I used to be an angry and depressed person, but now, thanks to hooking up with a GREAT therapist who was able to listen and HEAR me, I now know what happiness actually means.

And depression, as well as anxiety ( I saw your post on the anxiety forum) can certainly cause a myriad of different unexplainable pain.  I can surely attest to that.

Please know that there is hope for your future, but you have to get to the root of why your having these symptoms because medication is only half of the cure.  The other half comes from inside you.

Take care honey

Just dont give up. At least you know now what to deal with.  That in it self should take a ton of weight off. How long were you on the zoloft?  This disorder takes time. More time than we really want to give it. If you didnt feel like you were on the right track with your first therapist then by all means find another. Just please dont give up.  I can tell you this: The sun will come out tomorrow, Just hang in there.

Good Luck

I have had an EKG, stress test, chest xray, and a ton of various blood tests done that all came back normal.  I am currently on Zoloft, but think i'm getting off of it cause its not working for me... hopefully trying something different soon.  I have tried the whole therapy thing... didnt really work for me.. i might try someone different however.

Very likely, BUT, first things first.  Have you gone and gotten a good head to toe physical? If not, please do. And once that is out of the way and if nothing is found then and only then you can get to work on you.  Depression can cause alot of wonderful symptoms. UGHHHHHHHHH.   Are you on any medication? Therapy?  This is where the work begins.
Stay with us and let us know how your doing.
