headaches

I started taking Trazadone for sleep and it is giving me headaches.  I cut it from 150 mg to 75 mg and that helped some.  Will the headaches eventually go away?

Yes at the time I was aware of one person who acquired it. From what it states on websites about this medication this is an extremely rare adverse side effect. The full information would be in the P.D.R. (Physician's Desk Reference) and also in the physician's only database that your psychiatrist could access online.
Some natural remedies may be of some help as a sleep aide but some have some side effects of concern of their own. The natural remedy that is specifically helpful as a sleep aide is melatonin but Rozerem was derived from it and as an FDA approved medication is a safer option. Other natural remedies more have a calming effect. There is a specific forum for complementary medicine where people might have more information. Any ideas should be discussed with your psychiatrist and generally if a medication is working unless your psychiatrist says otherwise its worth remaining on it.

Way back you posted about trazadone as being a possible cause of tardives dyskinesia. I have taken it for 3 yrs.as a sleep aid for fibromyalgia & anxiety & it has helped a lot. I can't take Ambien or z-drugs. They wire me & work the opposite just as benadryl does for me, but I am terrified of getting TD or dystonia from the trazadone. How great is the risk? My Dr. told me that in 38 yrs. she has never seen anyone get TD from it & that 50  mg. is a low dose, however it is a possibility, although not as much as psychotropic drugs are. I will  need to taper slowly off the trazadone if I stop it after being on it so long. I honestly don't know what else may work for me. I used to take flexeril & elavil, but Elavil causes Td also. Rozerem is mostly to help with sleep onset problems. Mine is staying asleep. Any suggestions?
There is a homeopathic remedy on the market I could maybe try, but I don't htink it would be enough. I use lemon balm & L-theanine to relax nerves during daytime.

There are safer sleeping medications such as Lunesta and Rozerem. My concern about Trazadone is the fact that it can cause tardive dyskinesia. If you are not taking it for depression but as a sleep aid you might want to ask your psychiatrist about the two I mentioned. This link is from a psychiatric journal and lists all known medications that can cause tardive dyskinesia and Trazadone is clearly listed as one. A person I was in communication with did develop tardive dyskinesia from Tradazone in fact.

Obviously don't change anything without consulting your psychiatrist but print out the link and show it to the person and perhaps they would consider changing you to one of the two I suggested which are safe for long term use and non addictive.

Namaste,

Headaches are a common symptom of many of the psychotropic medications, but usually dissipate after continued use. This may be a week or two at the most.

If they don't subside, get with your provider and let him/her know about the headaches, since they may be a sign of something else.

Finally, I hope you changed the dosage of your Trazadone with the knowledge of your provider. It can be dangerous to "play" with your medications without the approval of your doctor, since the doctor prescribed the initial dosage for a specific reason.
