marijuana and celexa

I have used Marijuana for 1 year almost daily after I had knee surgeries and multiple deaths in the family. I have recently been prescribed celexa for depression, which is not drug related. I haven't taken the celexa yet in fear of a reaction, but I was hoping to find some answers about side effects of both if I was already a user of marijuana first. I read that marijuana increases serotonin and celexa is a serotonin inhibitor. are they both trying to do the same thing in the brain and if so which one is known for having fewer side effects.

CeleXa inhibits reuptake allowing more seratonin to  be left in the synaptic gap causing the threshold for the nerves firing to be techniquelly less because less has to be delivered for the spark to occur since more is already there and available. I have smoked M. for 2 years and recently started CeleXa. The only thing ive noticed thus far is that I am less affected by the M. now that I am on CeleXa. But honestly I think its because the gap in my gut or soul or mood or however you see it, is already filled by the CeleXa, I smoked mainly out of deppression, its not the best solution, it was mine for awhile, the best I had available, but it only coped my problems and pain while dulling my experience to life and mood. It was not a solution for my problems but just a bandaid and it did affect my life to a larger extent than i realized. Two week ago before starting CeleXa i would have argued that weed did me nothing but good. But now im seeing that although it helped me cope, its not the best coping mechanism and I at this point I think I might leave it behind as my preferred method and just leave it to the CeleXa as my deppression medication. Personally I feel like mixing the two is not a threat if its on a casual basis, please keep in mind that I am just a young adult with no medical background other then A.A. college and my own personal experience of these two drugs, but i would think it to be bad or hard on the body/brain to be chroniclly ingesting two chemicals that affect the Seratonin in the brain. And perhaps just a thought, one that i didn't think of before i started Celexa, is maybe quiting smoking for awhile could aid in your issues and help you avoid taking Celexa altogether. Although the more reading i do i am starting to think that once these chemicalls are off they need a guiding hand to bring them back to their happy places, one of the reasons why i feel like mixing the two could be a bad idea because it to me would be confusing this guide. But as I said, i do not know beyond subjectivity and don't hold much credability, personally I am seeing benifical affects from Celexa, far better than what M. did for my specific needs, and getting on it seems like it will be easier to leave M. behind. Everyone is different and i am only trying to help give you some thoughts of a person in a similar situation because I know how significant this is, its our lives, and alot of people have diff opinions on what we should do and were all just trying to make the right decisions.

You could also talk to your pharmacist about this if you didn't want your doctor too know about the marijuana use. Although might be a good idea to tell your doctor anyway for possible "future" medication interactions.

Talk to your doctor about this. Just because it's natural and grown from the Earth means nothing. There are many "natural" plants out there that kill you if you ingest them.

Well, marijuana is natural and grows from the ground and where does Celexa come from? Who really knows? I would say, but I'm just a regular person who reads a lot. I would think Marijuana would have a lot less side effects, esp. if you're use to using it. Google the use of them together, if you don't get an answer here. I find it just makes your meds feel a little stronger. I take Klonopin for anxiety and Tramadol pain killers for an injury. Not bad effects here.

Be safe and hang in there :)
