Hi. I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Like the others said here, you need to get your daughter to a therapist. I can't believe you had a therapist that said she's just going through a phase!

I have been going through a tough year with my own daughter who is now 15. Since she was 12 she said she's been depressed. This has only been coming out this last year. Last year she started cutting herself and was depressed. I found a suicide note and immediately got her into counseling. She's much better but still has some depression and has still cut herself a few times. She also was writing a lot of dark stuff and drawing sad, dark pictures. She's a lot better but still relates to the "Emos". I don't like it but she seems to be coming out of it. A lot of this stems from the bullying and meaness of other kids at school. We didn't know how bad things were for so long. A lot has been coming out into the light now and she is a lot better.

I know how frightening this must be for you but there is hope. Please find a good therapist who is experienced with teens and will include the parents. And if you need to talk, please feel free to send me a private message. I would be more than happy to talk to you. Take care and let us know how she's doing. God bless.

i was like this a few months ago and still find it hard not to cut..it was caused by depression of a horrible abusive break up....but i did it partly for attention as do most cutters...cuz i felt like that was the only way to get it...and becuz i had a lot of pain and hate built up inside...sit down & talk to ur daughter...cuz trust me it only gets worse...i almost died from it & it turned into me trying to commit suicide almost ever month..but just talk to her and show her u love her..try buying her cloths and spending more time with her...if she has friends who do it get her away from them cuz thats probably what caused it...whatever you do don't move her away from them...it'll just make her hate you...and her depression worse...and i know you guys say its a phase but its not..when you start slitting ur wrist its not a phase its a serious prblem & she might hear voices to also get attention...at 12 i remember wanting to spend all this time with my mom and sisters and i did...but when they were too busy i felt sad lonley and cried..but its family that pulls you through everything so my advice is have family around more..cousins her same age...and try to make time where just the two of you have a mother & daughter day cuz that helps a lot..even now that im 18 & moved away from home it feel real good to be with my mom goin shopping or to a different place for a day...like Sedona, Az

HI, my little sister is 12 and she is going through a phase somewhat the same. She used to be so upbeat and perky and now she justs wants everyone to leave her alone and lashes out all the time. Then she gets sad about it and cries. She doesn't relate well to anyone but when she stays with me she acts normal and happy and tells me things. She admits that she does rash things because she feels she is getting the wrong attention, or not the kind she wants. I have to admit when I was a teenager my mother took me to two therapists, I was very depressed and unhappy with our family life. The therapists never talked to me about being depressed during our sessions, it made no sense to even be there. Theres a trend now called EMO...if you are EMO you wear dark, sad colors act depressed, write sad morbid poems. It is really weird. Its a group of kids that want to appear suicidal. I don't understand it but Ive read some things "EMO" kids have written and it involved cutting themselves and bi-polar like behavior. I think you should ask the therapist if they are speaking to her directly about being depressed, of course they wont tell you anything thats said BUT ask them to focus on finding out why she is... You are in my thoughts and prayers!

My hearts goes to you both, the someone close to me is my mother though we don't stay together (she gave me to my grandad since birth) she have been dignosed with schizophrenic about 25 years ago, was in mental institue, treated and she have been taking meds since then. Till now she still 'hears' people talking but not as bad.

Be strong all the best to the both of you and your family.

My daughter is diagnosed as fast-cycling bipolar and my son is currently going through major depressive disorder.  I understand a bit how frightening, frustrating, and overwhelming it can be.

Please call a psychiatrist (not social worker or psychologist) TOMORROW!   "Cutting" can be a sign of borderline personality; hearing voices can be a sign of schizophrenia; suicidal writings can be a sign of major depressive disorder.  Your daughter needs professional help NOW.  Please don't hesitate.

I just went through this with my son two months ago when he was very suicidal.  Your daughter needs your help but doesn't know what she needs or how to ask for it.

My best to you and your family.

By cutting her wrist that a call for help, you should bring her to a psychiatrist. You said that she have been hearing voices that's sound like schizophrenia - someone close to me is having that symptom she's now undergoing therapy. You got to be strong, all the best, good luck.

Lovly - this is a grave concern,  for an 11 year old to be hearing voices and slitting her wrists.    I don't believe this actually began with upset over a dad she never even knew.

You need to seek help for her tomorrow.    And tell the therapist she is writing suicidal poems,  and slitting her wrists,  and hearing voices in her head.

God bless you.
