I always read about the drug when I get a new one, no matter what it is. It is good to be informed but as anything, you can get too much information. They give all this info. out to avoid lawsuits etc but sometimes it can just plain scare you. .Have someone around and not being alone when you take a new drug can also help. Also, tell family and friends who you trust, that you are going to take a new prescription and you are concerned. This way they can  keep an eye on you as well as being supportive!

Being med free when you are ill does not usually happen. Drugs are, and can be our friends not our enemies. They heal us. No one wants to take meds but none of us want depression and anxiety so great that it affects us so we cannot function well. I am so greatful for meds that keep me free from depression and all that terrible anxiety I felt. That was no way for any human to live!!!

I take Seraquel, I'm on an unusually high dosage but it works great for me(mind you I am also on a very very high dosage of Lamictal).  And yes, everyone wants to be off meds but if you can't be off yet then you shouldn't.  I have yet to have ANY problems with Seraquel and I sleep great and feel just fine.  Also, everyone is different on the same medication.  If your provider feels this is right for you then you should do it, if after you take it you feel unusual or strange or you just don't like it tell them.  Doctors are not psychics and need to know how you feel in order to find what's right for you.  I hope this helps.

Going off meds while changing is what I do every single time. Why? I want to see how I am doing. I find I'm OK for about 6 weeks so far and then I need to go back to meds again. But the first 2 weeks I usually feel great.

What you're feeling now is likely just withdrawal symptoms and once they clear you'll have a better idea.

As long as you feel OK why not go without? That's the aim of us all after all isn't it? You'll know as soon as you need to go back on and if you do just go see the doc. If things do go downhill don't wait as they will continue sliding. React and take preventetive measures.

Seroquel seems Ok to me but, like all meds, there are bad stories.

It also has a good reputation too though, particularly for bi polar sufferers.

I hope you are in contact with a Doctor going off your medications. Coming off medication to quickly can be a bad idea. Medications are not one size fits all. Different medications help different people. Sometimes it takes years to get the right combination. I started out before Prozac. I have been on most of the drugs. I am on Seroquel and like it. I like the original better than the extended release. I take it at night and the side effects are gone by morning. I did not like taking something called an anti psychotic because I do not like being seen as crazy. It is used for other things.

I have learned in thirty years my disease, depression tells me not to treat it. That is what is does. I do not listen to it. Back in the day I was in State Hospitals the people who kept returning had one thing in common they thought they did not need medication.

Depressed people have to take responsibility for their chemical imbalances the same way a diabetic or an asthmatic would. It is not a matter of will power.

I am Bipolar so I take my medication everyday. I am asthmatic so I use my inhaler twice a day. I have MS so I give myself a painful shot every day to hopefully keep myself out of a wheel chair.

Good luck,
Alex

Please keep in mind that on the blogs you are hearing of only a handful of bad experiences, compared to the millions who are doing fine on it.
