My dad feels some one is watching / following him...

Hi,

Lately my dad, always stays in fear that some one is following him, whenever he goes out, even for a walk, some tries to harm him. He was ok till some time, but now he is getting very scary sometimes and get disturbed. He tries not to go out, not to talk to anyone at home even and feels like everyone is trying something bad for him.
We asked him to visit a doctor, but he disagrees.

Not sure what type of depression / phobia this is and how can we treat this?

Please help!!!

I would check out with the doctors first to be sure it isn't an underlying neurological condition ie dementia.

Therapy would be a good option if he is willing to help it.

Hi,

Thanks, as rightly said, he is in old age. And I'm sure something might have happened in past, which initiated this paranoia. However its been a while now (3-4 yrs) and this prolonged paranoia is might not cause more medical problem.

Is this something needs to be discussed with any therapists?

You didn't provide much information regarding your dad's age and background. Anyway, at a relatively old age some neurological condition can be the cause.

You don't know if the paranoia is due to something real that he's really scared off and that he dont wants you to know.

Those are jus examples.
