1 year old and Sunblock reactions

My 1 year old daughter has had several bad reactions to sun-block over the last few weeks. We first tried Aveeno Baby, and she broke out in hives at the beach. We took her home, gave her a bath and some benedryl, and she was ok. Next we tried Blue Lizard, which is chemical free. This seemed to work with no ill effects a couple times, but the 3rd time, she had minimal reactions to it...runny nose, a red nose, and a little red around her mouth. So, my wife then tried Neutrogena for sensitive skin, and she developed a rash on her body.

We feel horrible. We would love for her to be able to enjoy the beach or a pool, but obviously need to protect her skin...We've contacted our doctor, and are in the process of tracking down a local dermatologist who can see her soon. Anyone else had struggles finding an agreeable sunblock for infants? Any suggestions?

We had this same problem with our 3 yr. old son this summer.  We had been using a particular brand  of sunscreen on him the last 3 summers with no problems at all, and then suddenly this summer he broke out in hives (especially on his face, ears and neck).  So we tried Banana Boat Baby Magic (the spray on kind) and also purchased a solid stick type of sunscreen (kind of like a giant chapstick) and have had no trouble with either one of these.  We also used the Coppertone continuous spray sunscreen while on vacation and had no trouble with that either.  Hope this helps and that you find something that works for your daughter.

I'm in a different country but we have specially formulated "toddler" milk sunscreens here. I also found that my son's skin got less sensitive as he got older.
