Impetigo Scabs

I was kind of curious if I was doing anything wrong with treating my impetigo. I was given a cream and antibotics. The impetigo is kind of hard and scabby now and doesn't seem to be really getting better. Should I remove the scabs then put the cream on it or something? How can I make it clear up faster?

Hello,
This red mark is due to post inflammatory hyperpigmantation changes. This should go away after a few weeks but if it persists then you can get yourseld prescribed hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. If it still persists then you can go in for laser treatment, Chemical peeling or microdermabrasion. Avoid picking, harsh scrubbing, and abrasive treatments unless prescribed by a dermatologist during this period.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.

I am just wondering now about scarring. The area where I had the impetigo is still like a red mark. It is sort of a small indent. What should I use to get rid of it faster? is this normal?

Hello,
Since most of the scabs have fallen off, you can continue using the cream. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Ok most of the big red scabs have fallen off and now there is just sort of a thin yellow scab there now. Should I continue to use the cream? Will it make the scab go away quicker?

Hello,
Impetigo starts as small bumps which turn to blisters and sores which scab over. The bacteria live under these scabs and until these are removed, the antibiotic ointment has difficulty getting through to the bacteria to kill them. So these can be removed and the antibiotic applied. But once the scabs are formed after starting the antimicrobials, then they should not be removed because this delays healing.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
