Abnormal nipples.

Since I hit puberty, my nipples began to change. Since it is an embarrassing subject, I never really talked to my gynocologist about it. I just found out,I was pregnant, so I decided to ask about them. They have had small jagged scabs on them that make my nipples sensitive to the touch, even in the shower. My doc said she had never seen them before but that it looked like the tissue around my nipples never fully formed. If I look really close, I can see where the opening of my nipples never actually closed or formed. I want to breastfeed for the benefits for the baby, but I would like to know why my nipples look this way. The scabs can be picked off, but it is very painful and they will only come back. Please help! Thanks.

Hm..I've never been diagnosed with anything, and I've always watched my diet really well because my family is very obese. And I only wear Victoria's Secret bras. I've never heard of anyone else having this, either. Thanks for the info tho!

Two possibilities.  One might be some sort of vitamin deficiency.  Is your diet inadequate or might you have a disease causing malabsorption?  Such as Celiac disease?  

The second thing that comes to mind is a bra that is rubbing.  Make sure you wear a very supportive bra with a very smooth lining.  No chafing should be allowed.
