About 4 months ago I used coconut oil on my face but didn't realise it was not suitable to use on the face, only on the body. I used the product for about a week and then stopped as my skin suddenly changed to a rough texture, became paler and sensitive to my moisturizer.
I thought the coconut oil had clogged my pores and so started using a salycilic acid face scrub about a month after and then a salycilic acid cream, both for a week and then stopped due to irritation. I think I may have damaged my skin further by using the face scrub while my already damaged skin was healing?
Anyway, skip forwards to today and my skin has a smoother texture and is no longer sensitive to my moisturiser, however... Pretty much all my pores are 'plugged' and I seem to have a thicker layer of skin than before March. I think this may be build up of keratin plugging the pores and giving me a duller complexion. I take it the excess keratin is due to the skin healing itself.
What products would be best to use to dissolve the keratin plugs and excess keratin on my face? I am cautious of using Retin-A as have heard many horror stories online! I'm also cautious of facial peels and salycilic acid as I have dark/mixed race skin that could be more susceptible to hyperpigmentation/scarring from an acid peel.
Many thanks for your help!
