Burning sensation on lower and upper lips ( outer lips not inner)

Hello Doctor,
I have been having sort of burning sensation of my upper and lower lips ( outer portion ) not inner portions, my tip of the tongue too feels a bit itchy ! I have never had this problem, I am 39 years old and have been on hypertensive medicine for the last 10 years ( recently around 9 months back) changed to losartan ( one in the morning and one in the evening after food ) does this have anything to do with this, or is my magnesium or calcium low ??? I quite puzzled so could please let me know whats the problem or what tests i need to take to check this problem, thanks for all the answers. Ponyguy

Dear Ms.Kaur,
Thanks very much for your advise, let me take B-complex for a while and revert to you on how i feel, I just though i should let you know that on the lower lips ?(inner) there are minor dark spots (just 3 or 4 ) let me know if they are also related to what you had informed or something else. thanks onecagain ponyguy

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Firstly, It can be due to vit B deficiency. Take some vitamin B complex for some days and see if your symptoms improve.
Secondly, it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema("Atopic" refers to a group of diseases where there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever). Cheilitis (Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis.Diagnosed by blood test like RAST. Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases. Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful.

If the symptoms persist then a  dermatologist’s evaluation will be the best.
I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
