Child has Severe Eczema is she Neglected ?

My daughter works in a Daycare and there is a 4 year old there that has been there since she was 2. She has severe Eczema and it is so bad almost her whole body stays broken out constantly. Her hands, arms, legs, feet, face, everything. She is covered with bleeding sores. Her feet are so bad she can hardly get sandals on. My daughter said the parents have said there is nothing the doctors can do. The little girl is allregic to almost everything including the bleach the daycare uses to clean with. The parents took her out of the daycare a couple years ago and kept her at home in a more controlled environment and she cleared up pretty good but then they started bringing her to the daycare again , knowing she breaks out. The girl hardly ever gets baths because she is supposed to have a seperate tub than the other family members. Her feet bleed so bad that her socks have to be peeled off her because they are stuck from the blood.

This little girl cries all the time from the pain.

I know almost nothing about Eczema so I am asking here. Is it really this bad ? Is there nothing that can be done really or are the parents just too lazy to properly care for her ? They don't send any creams or medicines or anything for the girl . If the girl got better when taken out of daycare , shouldn't the parents keep her at home instead of exposing her to the cleaners at the daycare ? Is this a form of neglect ? I know if I had a child this bad and if it meant keeping her at home to keep her better I would quit my job and stay home with her. I am really sad for this girl and just can't imagine that there is nothing that can be done. Any time the daycare workers ask the parents about it they just say they have had her to doctors and there is nothing that can be done.

My question is, are they telling the truth or should this be reported to child services and be checked out ?

Hi I know this is an old post but I myself am going through this with my baby. We are devastated and so sad abt our baby. We've been to allergists dermatology and pediatriciabs but there's nothing besides atarax to help with the itchiness. It's easy to pin point at parents and call them names n say they are irrisponsible but trust me as a  parent in a similar situation it's hard on us. If one of us were to stay home we won't be able to support our family ...just the meds are expensive and all the dr visits ....please ppl be kind to such parents. I hate it when everyone comes up and ask what's wrong with our baby. Don't you think we know something is up. I hate when ppl starts suggesting us things. Everyone always have something to suggest. Trust me we know and some ppl start to irritate and annoy us by asking and suggesting. You won't know until you actually feel it. God forbid I hope everyone had healthy kids and not have to go through this at all ...

i know it's hard to believe, but sometimes that just is the case, as it was with me when i was younger.  maybe the only healer for this little girl is time, as a lot of people tend to grow out of their allergies by early adulthood, as i did with many of mine.  maybe if your daughter mentions this to her parents, it will offer them something to look forward to!

Thank you LS. Apparently they have had her to some sort of specialist in the past because they know she is allergic to all kinds of foods. The only thing she can eat at the daycare is cheese sandwiches. I know all of the daycare workers have talked to the parents about her and the parents told them they have had her to specialists and there is nothing they can do.  It's just so hard to imagine that there is nothing that can be done to ease this little girls pain and help her.

sorry, i read your post wrong and when i went back and looked at it, i saw that your daughter works as one of her daycare providers.

i am sticking with my original statement that it seems like her parents are trying to help her and are getting the run-around from her doctors.  i would also suggest that she visit an asthma and allergy research center if it at all possible and talk to the doctors there.  depending on your location, many local doctors just simply do not have access to the facilities and materials that can identify the triggers of these sort of things.  i know that when i was a child, i had to travel an hour and a half away to see several specialists in a larger metropolitan area.

i would say it does not seem like neglect to me, but if the situation worsens or has no changes in the near future perhaps your daughter or one of the other daycare providers could talk to the parents to see if they are trying to help her and are getting the run-around from doctors or if they are not trying to help her at all.  if you find that they are not trying to help her at all, i would start to become suspicious and look for other signs of neglect.  if they are trying but getting the run-around from doctors, i would suggest strongly suggesting to them that they should take their daughter to an asthma and allergy research center for more comprehensive testing (even though i would suggest telling them this regardless).  hope i've helped!

i have eczema and have had it for years.  this little girl's case sounds pretty severe.  i wonder if maybe this eczema is not a manifestation of her eating something she is allergic to rather than it physically coming in contact with her skin.  i would suggest to her parents that she have allergy testing done, specifically for food allergies.

it does seem odd that her parents would not send her with the proper creams for her eczema, but it could be that they don't want the daycare providers to touch their daughter, since the soap they use to wash their hands or lotion they put on might make it worse if it is on their hands when they apply her creams.  the idea that the doctors cannot do anything for this eczema sounds like the doctors don't want to put forth the effort.  they should send her to an allergist and dermatologist.  i would lean toward the idea that it is something that she is eating that is causing these awful reactions.

even though she got better when they took her out of daycare, they may be in a situation where one of them is not able to stay home from work to be home with her or they don't have anyone else to be home with her.  i would, personally, suggest to them to have her tested for food allergies and leave it at that.  i'm sure it is just as difficult, probably moreso, for her parents to see their little girl in pain as it is for you and your child to see her hurting.

i am no expert on this kind of thing, but it does sound like they are trying to help her and are getting nowhere with the doctors as opposed to neglect.  like i said, i would suggest having her sent to an allergist and a dermatologist.  if things get any worse or serious signs of neglect appear, the daycare providers will notice.  it is their responsibility to report neglect, so i would leave it up to them.  i'm sure they're intelligent people and if they suspect a problem they will go through the proper channels to get help for her.

to me, it sounds like frustrated parents who are getting little advice from doctors and are not sure what to do.
