Crazy Itchy!!!

Okay, I dont have a rash or any bites of any kind but I am itchy EVERYWHERE! Its driving me crazy. I seem to scratch without even thinking and then it feels so good (like scratching a mosquito bite) and then I cant stop scratching. Its over my arms, legs, scalp, stomach, not really my privates or face (thank goodness) Its been going on about a week now. Could it be a nervous condition? If Im not (contiously) scratching, its not as bad, but once I start, its really hard to stop. I usually end up splashing cool water on the itch or put lotion over it to ease it, but what in tarnation could be causing this annoyance??? Please help!

It all started on Mothers Day. We played kick ball at a park. I was hot and sweaty and I do remember some little bugs flying around in the grass. Last night I actually saw some very faint bumps (not red) that Id been scratching. So ya, its been about a week 1/2. No allergies. Its worse at night too, I guess when Im less distracted then. I sure hope its not contagious. Thanks for the reply!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi.

I know how discomforting this condition is. Itchiness is referred to as pruritus in medical terms. It may be a manifestation of a superficial skin reaction or it may suggest an underlying condition which may need further evaluation. In your case, for how long have you had this?

Do you have any known allergies?

What circumstances or events surround the onset of the pruritus? What could have triggered this?

I suggest that you seek consult with an internist with regards to this. Based on your post, there seems to be an absence of any rash or skin manifestation.

Any associated symptoms like change in bowel movement, change in the character of the stools and urine?
