What's causing hair from head trapped and growing under her face skin??

My best friend's hair from her head is growing underneath her face skin, instead of out of her sideburns area, which is now a blank space with no hair coming out, because the hair is trapped under her face skin. Like big patches of hair just grow under her face instead of out of the sideburns area. A new patch of hair on top is starting to look bald, but its the atupid hair, trapped growing under her scalp, instead of OUT of her scalp. Dr's are stumped. ANY NEW IDEAS on what this is called or how to treat??

Has she had any blood work done to test for hormonal issues?  If not, that is where I would start.  Even if the doctors are not sure what is going on- she should keep going back and pushing for answers, going for other opinions to other doctors too- that's the only way she will get to the bottom of it!

Thanks for your reply! Dr suggested hormonal changes could be it. Will tell her to ask for lab workup!
