Molluscum or herpes?

Hi there,

I am a 26 year old male who has had unprotected sex with the same partner over the last 3 years. I have a cluster of pimple-like things on the side of my penis shaft. They have been there for at least 4 or 5 months now with no sign of disappearing. Also, I have a few single bumps in my pubic hair area which look the exact same. They are a redish/purplish color. About a year ago, only the single bumps were present. I visited a doctor and was advised it was molluscum. However, since the cluster formed, I am now beginning to get concerned that it may be herpes. The cluster is not painful at all, and I can't remember them every being itchy or anything. As mentioned, they've been there for quite some time. I've been told that if it were herpes it would have scabbed over and fallen off by now. Is this correct? Should I be concerned about herpes? Any information would be greatly appreciated. If it Molluscum I am not too concerned, as I have been told it will eventually go away on its own. Please help. I am very worried.
Thank you kindly.

Hello,
The lesions do not sound like herpes.Herpes typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak.

Herpes also presents with red itchy blisters which scab over.So it does not sound like herpes. It can be molluscum which is usually self limiting.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
