Dark Patch on Toe

Hi there,

For the past 2 months or so, I've had a weird patch of dry, dark brown/black, (possibly scaly) skin on the knuckle of my right big toe. I don't have restricting shoes, nor do I have athlete's foot or anything like that.

I went to the doctor with my concerns, fearing that it may be skin cancer, he tried to put my mind at ease by pointing out that he didn't think it was skin cancer, and that it didn't fit certain criteria for that to be the case. He has given me Fusidic Acid, with betamethasone valerate to apply to the area of hyperpigmented skin, however after 3 days of usage, there hasn't been any change. I read on the leaflet that I shouldn't be using it for more than 7 days, and changes should be seen by then. I fear this may be something else, possibly skin cancer, but I'm intrigued to see what a professional on these forums would say.

The area is dry, dark brown / black, slightly darker at one point, it isn't painful at all, isn't itchy, it's just there.

I've taken 2 pictures of the lesion, one with flash on, and one with flash off. I appreciate they're not very good pictures, but I would hope someone would still see enough detail to offer any kind of help. Please see the 2 links below for the pictures:

Any advice would be more than appreciated.

Best Regards,

Keith.

lol you guys are way overthinking this. Does any of you drink enough water? Not other fluids water. I’m the same way and tried several things and nothing but I noticed if I drink redbull which is a dehydrating drink and I rarely drink water on top of that, I noticed that patch over the big toe which I’ve got flakey or like a spot of crazy glue also dark patch appeared on next toe and the next one. Months later I decided to cut back on caffeine and drink water and the other 2 toes cleared up and back to my dark but not dry dark patch. I believe if you hydrate yourself from the inside, moisturizers can’t fix everything and that area had to deal with gravity and a lack to blood vessels and pores on those specific parts compared to the bottom part of the foot with tons of vessels it’s always nice and soft. I might be wrong but that’s the best I can come up with lol. Good luck everyone

Hi there,
I have the same problem and just found this:

Hi, I am dr.Iqtidar and will try to answer your question. Calluses unfortunately are not easy to deal with. Filling them and scraping them is extremely bad as this results in calluses reappearing and even getting infected so that's not recommended at all. You may go to a podiatrist to get them removed professionally so they don't reappear however there are various remedies which you may try.

The most effective way is through salicyclic Acid strips which are easy to apply and are effective. You will have to apply these for atleast three days to see a difference. Flexitol callus remover cream can be applied as this helps soften the calluses preventing their build up. Once you can prevent their build up then you must try to prevent them from reappearing by continuing to wear perfect fitting shoes and avoiding wearing barefoot.

To prevent them from reappearing the best way would be to get orthotic shoes made for this purpose but that could be costly so you may try shoe inserts that evenly distribute pressure on the feet. You may soak your feet is warm water and then gently file the skin once softened which will keep them under control. Hope this helps.
Any questions please ask I am here to help. "

I have this exact same condition and I'm struggling to find answers. My derm said there is no way to get rid of the spot, short of wearing flip flops for the rest of my life. Have you found a solution?
