Extreme diaper rash need help

My son is 2 months almost 3 and he has the worst diaper rash ive ever seen. It all started when he got some kind of virus which we had to go to emergency room for (cause of all the diarrhea) and they told us that it "just needed to run it course". well since hes had this virus (and its been for several weeks) hes had nothing but diarrhea and this diaper rash is steadily getting worse. It's at the point if you wipe it with anything it starts bleeding. They gave me a cream that was given to me when he was only a week old for a yeast diaper rash but this time its doing nothing. I bought Mr. Smiths diaper cream as well as aquaphor but the aquaphor seems to do nothing and after one diaper with Mr. Smiths (and it was only urine) it got 10x worse. I called his pediatric and they said to wait a week and see if it gets better, and that is frustrating that i cant help my child for a whole week.

All im asking is for a home remedy or something to heal the broken skin.

One of my babies was very fair and got terrible diaper rash. I took off her diaper and placed her on a padded mat. A diaper holds in the fumes, so I felt the open air would be better. It was.

What I don't understand is why the doctors are so complacent about the diarrhea. Persistent diarrhea can kill a baby. Get rid of that condition and the other should disappear. If the diarrhea does not stop soon, take him to the ER.
