Eyes are swollen!!!

Before I went to bed last night my eyes were really red and when I woke up this morning my eyes were swollen on the top and bottom. What are some ways to make the swelling go down. I went to a heath center today and they gave me some Medicine and it is working but my eyes are still swollen. What are some other things that I can do to prevent the itching and make the swelling go down faster???

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Unexplained swelling of the eyes or eyelid without any predisposing disease is frequently caused by allergies. An allergic reaction can occur suddenly, even in a person with no previous history of allergy. This swelling is called angioedema. Diagnosis is by clinical examination and complete blood tests, electrolytes and renal function tests. Treatment is by antihistaminics like Benadryl or Zyrtec and steroids. If the symptoms persist then please get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
