Unexplained Skin Problems after sex encounter

Hello,
I have had the following problems after having unprotected sex with my girlfriend for the first time:
2 days later I had tingling sensations, red rash on scrotum, red patches of skin on penis head, slight clear discharge from base of penis, dampness in genital area, testicular discomfort/pain, mild urethritis, and burning sensations in testicles, wrestless sleep, and fevers...

I went to the Dermatologist...and he said it looked like Eczema and gave me some steroidal cream.  This definetly aggrivated the area.  I have tried anti-fungle creams, changing detergents, changing my underwear to silk boxers, and used baby powder - none of which had success with the rash or genital problems.

The baby powder helped the most and it keeps the area dry for a while but the rash won't go away.  The scrotal sac doesn't like to hang loose...It is evident that my genital area doesn't look the way it used to...And that something is bothering it...I minimize touching down there and notice that when I don't touch down there for a while..in combination with using baby powder...sometimes the redness goes away but never completely...A couple of scratches can start the cycle over again...I always keep my hands clean and wash them before I go the bathroom. I also trim my nails pretty short...so it's no likely it's something under my nails.

I have been to my regular Dr numerous times and have been blood tested for HSV I+II, HIV, all negative & Clymydia and Gonorreah cultures were negative...She was tested for the basic STDs, HIV, Gonorreah, and Clymydia: all negative, and she had a visual screen for lesions, etc...again negative.

It's now been 4 months...We haven't had sex in 10 weeks...
I think this is worth mentioning that about 10 days after the incident, my eyes felt extremely irritated...and then had discharge...the eyelids are always red now and the steroidal cream the Dr gave for my eyes doesn't work.  Also, I occasionally run a fever and my skin (arms...legs)feel like it's burning in certain areas.  Also, my muscles twitch frequently...

I understand mental anxiety & worry can be a possible explanation.  Aside from anxiety...Can you give me some other explanations to these problems and recommend some possible tests I could have done. I realize you might not have the answers, but I just want some direction.

Having been a rather healthy individual all my life, with running and not smoking, I know my body pretty well...and I feel it's reacting to something.

There are too many things that are physically different that don't add up to anxiety. Does it sound like something bacterial/viral...Can this be explained by any one thing?

I feel I have done a good job of not trying to think about the problems, and let it worry me, as I know that definetly can make it worse...but these physical abnormalities are really bothering me and they are not normal.  Please help me get back to being me...Thank you!

There are also a number of itchy rashes (pimple like) that come on all around my body off and on. They are most prominent around the arms.

Recently I developed some fungul infections in between my toes. My Doctor treated me with Ketoconazole for a period of one month. Surprisingly there was no pain in my scrotum during the entire period. However as soon as I stopped (as my foot had healed) the pain resumed once again. My scrotum is always tight and full. There is continous  sweat around my scrotum and it is very cold. The rashes though there are very mild now and almost no itching.

I have had the exact same experience as the original poster (macdost3) to include the irritation of the eyes.

It started at the end of March and is still ocurring today (28 August 01).  I have been to two dermatologists and gone through a number of topical ointments to include:

Combination of:
Vytone
Nizoral

Combination of:
Hydrocortizone (1%)with Clioquinal (3%)
T-Stat Erythromycin Topical Pads

Mycelex

Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream

Clotrimazole Cream

None of the above treatments has worked.  I've avoided contact with females for over 5 months now.

Does anyone out there have any answers?

Mick

I know this will send fear to the hearts of men, but have any of the deratologists you have been to thought of doing a biopsy, to look for fungus or yeast,  even to do immunologic studies? You might request one if they haven't talked about it in any of your visits.
If they were to take a biopsy they may be able to make a definitive diagnosis.  Make sure that the tissue is sent to a Dermatopathologist, instead of a regular pathologist.  A Dermatopthologist is used to looking at skin tissue instead of every type of tissue there is.  They are able to see the subtle differences easier.   I wish you luck!

I happen to have the same symptoms. They started sometime in dec 2000 and have been haunting me ever since. Numerous tests, Doctors and pills have failed to help me.

IMMEDIATELY after the act I felt a searing pain in my Scrotum (immediately after the ejaculation). Ever since I am experiencing burning pain in my scrotum and around my buttocks. The same tingling/tearing sensation is also felt between my legs just below the scrotum. The skin surrounding my testicles feels thick and sweaty. The scrotum always feels full. Infact one of the testicles always feels as if it is clinging on to the other one. However there is no redness in the genital area or itching. Simply continous and very uncomfortable sweating.

Earlier after ejaculation the bag surrounding the testicles always feels empty. Now it always feels full.

Rashes have developed on my penis and the penis glands are also enlarged. It is red when it is erect. Does not itch.

I had visited numerous Doctors and underwent a number of tests including:

1. HIV (non-reactive)
2. VDRL ( " )

I visited several Doctors and they keep on saying this is nothing
*One of them said that it is just my mental frame of mind

* I conducted 3 vdrl test but all were
Non-Reactive
*Several drugs have been prescribed but I am yet to get any relief
* the drugs are
(a)
1. Penidure Injection LA24- One dose
2. Tab Resticlin 500 mg x 40
(1x4 daily for 10 days)
3. Polybion x10
(b)
1. Azithral 500 x10
(1 cap daily)
2. Beecosule 10
(1 cap daily)

(c)
1. Pyredirium x30
(1 x 2 daily)
2. Cystone x30
(1 Daily)

(d)
1. Aziwok 500 X 3
(1 cap daily)
2. Meftal spas x 10
(1 tab if there is pain)

(e)
1. Minicycline X 20
(1 X 2 Daily)
2. Cobadex Z X 10
(1 Cap Daily)
(f)
1. Powercef 1g

(g)
1. Powercef 1g

Recently again I visited another Doctor (may 21- 2001) who diagnosed me as suffering form ORCHITIS. He gave me an Injection which he did not disclose the name (but simply said it is from the USA) and told me that it will help cure my problem within 6 Months. He also prescribed DOXYPAL for my rashes.

Unfortunately the symptoms have prevailed and I am no nearer from being cured.

A few days ago since I felt that the drugs were not working on me so I took another dose of Penidure Injection LA24- Three doses ( I thought that my symptoms may be Syphillis) However I feel no change.

Again a week earlier I was advised by another doctor to undergo an HIV test and some Urinal test. Non-reactive reports were recieved. However he again prescribed some pills for me,

1. Flagyl 400mg daily X 3
2. Azithromicyn 250mg daily X 2
3. Disodium Hydrogen Citrate Syrup daily X 2
4. An ointment to apply ofor my rashes

After this course the pain on my scrotum seems to have subsided however the rashes on my penis have continued in full force. During erection especially the Penis is crimson red and swollen in the glands. The rashes have also started to itch.

Did you recieve any remedy? please email me at ***@****

After reading letters like yours, I sometimes wonder whether, when you get right down to it, sex is worth the trouble.

Your symptoms don't match those of any disease.  Also, you have been examined and worked up to the hilt.

Yes, indeed, all these physical things can add up to anxiety.  There's no other way I can think of to interpret a concern that, "my genital area doesn't look the way it used to."

I feel for you--your anxiety is debilitating and ruining your composure, not to mention your sex life.  If your doctor or dermatologist can't ease your fears, you need to give serious thought to meeting with a counselor or psychiatrist.  Worry like yours is not something to dismiss or ignore.

Best.
