Hair loss and Doryx

Has anyone experienced hair re-growth
after substantial hair loss due to taking
Doryx?
My scalp started itching and my hair started
falling out about 8 months after I began
taking Doryx for acne on my face and
scalp. I stopped taking Doryx about 6 months
ago but the hair loss continues. I'm afraid
I'll lose all my hair very soon!

Could you please update on your hair loss?  My 16year old son took doxy for approximately three months and has had substantial hair thinning. Please tell me this is not permanent and his hair will grow back!

Did your hair grow back? I stopped the Doryx about 2 months ago and I can't see any re-growth

Hi,

I had been taking Doxycycline for 4 months to treat Blepharitis (an eye condition). I noticed the same as you, itchy scalp and dramatic hair loss. Worst of all I suffered extreme oesophageal injury including and ulceration and became incredibly unwell.

I stopped taking Doxycycline 1 week ago now and am really hoping that my hair will stop falling out in clumps now and that it will regrow. I'm female with long hair way past my shoulder and am having about 3 inches cut off my hair tonight to try and help it look thicker again. The effect of this on your confidence can be absolutely devastating.

Incidentally, I am not stressed, do not smoke or drink alcohol. I eat a very health diet and exercise 2-3 times a week and I'm only 30 years old. I'm convinced that the Doxycycline has caused my hair loss.

Has your hair grown back now?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Doryx or doxycycline is often used as an acne treatment but hair loss is not a reported side effect. Causes of hair fall   could be like   nutrients and proteins deficiency in the hair cells, emotional or physical stress, hormonal imbalances, dandruff, and serious illness like a tumors, infectious disease and Alopecia areata. In your case it can be stress induced.  If there is underlying disease or nutritional deficiency .Give your diet an overhaul if you're lacking vital nutrients for growth and switch to foods for healthy hair.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
