A related discussion,
itching was started.
My question is I about once or twice a year got a fever blister under my buttom lip since I was about 17 years old. I would treat it with over the counter fever blister medicine and it would dry up and go away in about five days.
I took a battery of test for all std's about 8 monhts ago including Hvs-1 and Hvs-2 and all results came back negative.
I most recently was dating someone who told me after we had kissed that she has herpes. she didnt say which type she had just that she had it. I immediately went and got tested and the result came back that I had type-1.
Doc my question is. if fever blistes are considered type 1 why didnt my test results come back negative the first test??? and or do you think the fever blisters were actually from me having type 1. I'm so confused. I'm not sure if I had type 1 when I had fever blisters or if this person I was dating geve me type-1.
Could you please try to answer this question for me?
Hi Doc...I as well am sorry for not starting a new thread. I am new to this. I am sort of a panic freak about anything abnormal to my body. My history is that i have very sensitive skin and exzema....on around my joints. I now have a rash on my inner thighs going downto my knees. I have not had flu like symtoms, back pains or anything like that. I do wear slim jeans though so this may be a factor? (although I have been wearing slim jeans for a while) it is not itchy though. Could this be a fungus? i have had it for 2 weeks. I will post pictures in a few hours I don't have the connection o my camera yet. as well if a scratch it, it seams to spread. sometimes when i look at it, it's kinda smooth and other timesitfeel little bumpy.
please let me know your thoughts....
By the way... it does not sound like you have it. Wear a condom next time. Dr. Drew and Adam Corolla used to call it "Happies."
a mosquito bite at first and itches much worse. After a few days the spot may open up and become more painful than itchy, with discharge.
The initial illness when you contract herpes will be very flu-like. Most likely throwing up, a fever, swollen glands in the groin and lots of sleep. About 2-10 days after coming in contact with the virus. If you are sure you have herpes, be sure to go to a doc sooner than later, it helps to get a prescription to slow down the initial infection!
It is said that 1 in 4 people have herpes.
Be sure to read up on the benefits of the over the counter medication for heartburn, Tagamet (cimetidine). It is more cost affective than herpes prescriptions and may be just as effective.

Doc,
Thank you for you quick response I appreciate. And thank you sparkeler for your kind words as well. Just one more quick question. I walked into a hospital today and had a doctor look at my rash. I failed to mention before that the rash is symmetrical on both creases of my groin, however the left side is much worse. The skin almost looks as if it was rubbed for a long period of time, or rug burn. The hospital doc suggested it was from a lot of walking and like you said doc friction related. I was just wondering if a symmetrical rash like this is characteristic of herpes?? Any molre insight would be helpful!!
Thank you

Chances are you are paranoid b/c you found out the woman had hsv2. Suppressive therapy significantly reduces the risk of transmission. Add that to condom use & there is almost no risk involved at all. Stop looking at your genitals & move on. If you feel you must, have a herpes select blood test for type 2 herpes 3 months after your "exposure." I'm sure it will be negative. Stay safe.
doc
i had unprotected sex more than a year ago with my girlfriend ok, havent had sex or any contact since that time...i get these big sores on my thighs that are hard, about a half an inch wide and hurt to push on them. i also get them under my pubes every once in a while but they arent as big, im afraid there herpes. i dont have any sores on my penis or sac but i get them on my thighs about once a week usually, im overweight so it might be that my thighs rub together all day. they dont itch but they do hurt. they never break open or anything like that but im nervous about them. last night i got one under my armpit but it was like a zit, but it was much bigger than a regular zit, it hurt to touch and it hurt to squeeze. it popped like a zit though. ive been doing research and i dont have any trouble urinating or pain while urinating, no back pain, or open sores can u tell me what this is??
ps: sorry for posting a comment on this guys question but it wouldnt let me start a new one
What i meant to say is I havent notice any visible sores!!.. Sorry for the typo.
This sounds like irritation from intercourse friction, not herpes. Using a condom and having your partner on suppressive antiviral pills don't guarantee protection from herpes, but they come close. Anyhow, I'd relax and treat the irritation in the usual way--gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and limiting friction. If the symptoms persist, you can let a doctor have a look.
Best.
