Herpes Rash?

Two plus years ago, I somehow got Herpes from my ex-girlfriend.  Not really sure how it happened but i know i wasnt with anyone else and she is the only person i could have gotten it from.  Currently, I havent had any breakouts in over 15 months or so.  I am wondering if there is anyway it cleared up for good.  I am currently dating another female and think i need to tell her but was hoping maybe somehow its gone! Is that possible?  Not really sure how to handle it.

I have had a small rash at the very bottom of my spine near my buttocks.  I was hoping it would clear up so i didnt have to go to doctor but it has been a couple months and nothing has changed.  It is a rough itchy area that develops blister-like bumps when i itch the area.  I tried a bunch of over the counter creams, anti-itch creams, etc and nothing seems to help get rid of it.  Over time, the skin sheds where the rash is and it becomes extremely itchy.  I am not sure what kind of rashes you can get in that area and am getting ready to go to doctor.  It couldnt be herpes, could it???

Hi,
Herpes simplex is a viral disease caused by Herpes simplex viruses.Herpes viruses cycle between periods of active disease—presenting as blisters containing infectious virus particles—that last 2–21 days, followed by a remission period, during which the sores disappear. Genital herpes, however, is often asymptomatic, though viral shedding may still occur. After initial infection, the viruses move to sensory nerves, where they reside as life-long, latent viruses.
Causes of recurrence are uncertain, though some potential triggers have been identified. Over time episodes of active disease reduce in frequency.
HSV is most easily transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual, when shedding virus. Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. Despite this risk, barrier protection methods are the most reliable, but not failsafe, method of preventing transmission of herpes.
There is currently no cure for herpes; no vaccine is currently available to prevent or eliminate herpes. Treatments are available to reduce viral reproduction and shedding, prevent the virus from entering the skin, and alleviate the severity of symptomatic episodes.
People with the herpes virus are often hesitant to divulge to other people, including friends and family, that they are infected. This is especially true of new or potential sexual partners that they consider 'casual'.[134] A perceived reaction is sometimes taken into account before making a decision about whether to inform new partners and at what point in the relationship. Many people choose not to disclose their herpes status when they first begin dating someone, but wait until it later becomes clear that they are moving towards a sexual relationship. Other people disclose their herpes status upfront. Still others choose only to date other people who already have herpes.
