I have severe jock itch. is Mupirocin ointment, use effective for my condition?

I have severe jock itch that is very well controlled by Clotrimazoleand Betamethasone Dipropionate cream, but the itch always returns in about a week or two if I don't continue to use the cream. It is a prescribed medicine, by my doctor, but she doesn't want me to continue it's use after it's all used up because it has a steroid in it. Is there any effective substitute available over the counter that I could use?
