Ingrown hair or cyst?

Hello. Okay, I'll start off by apoligzing for any "too-much-info" here. But, we're all adults. Anyway. I very rarely shave my bikini area due to persistent/fear of painful ingrown hairs. About a year ago while I was on vacation, I developed an abcessed ingrown hair near my thigh on my bikini line which was more painful than childbirth, (I wish I was joking!) And ended up with a trip to urgent care and a stitch or two. I have since been scared to go through that again. I recently shaved and delevoped, in the same spot on the opposite side of the previous one, an eraser sized, painless, headless lump in the midst of my pubic hair which I assume is an ingrown hair.
Regardless of my ramble, my question is...should I just wait it out and see where it goes? I messed with it once to see if I would get anything out, maybe the hair, to no avail and haven't touched it in a week or so, and it has not grown nor shrunk. Should I go see my dermatologist and see if he can nip it in the bud? I would like to trip up NY bikini area since its summer, but I don't want to shave over it since I'm scared I  cut myself as its raised off the skin, I would just like it gone.

P.s. the previous abscess turned out to be a blood pocked. No puss or hair was found by the NP that helped me out with that one.
Thanks in advance.
