Hi,
This is a case of hives( Urticaria),  which is an allergic reaction.Wheals from urticaria can appear anywhere on the body, they typically itch severely, sting, or burn.

Urticaria is generally caused by direct contact with an allergenic substance, or an immune response to food or some other allergen, but can also appear for other reasons, notably emotional stress. The rash can be triggered by quite innocent events, such as mere rubbing or exposure to cold.
Urticarial disease is thought to be caused by the release of histamine and other mediators of inflammation  from cells in the skin.

Common trigger factors are:
Foods (commonly eggs, shellfish, nuts, berries, dyes, or other additives)
•Drugs (any drug can touch off an allergic reaction, although allergies to penicillin, sulfa, and aspirin are especially common)
•Pollens and plants (nettles, poison ivy, poison oak, and so on)

Drug treatment is typically in the form of Antihistamines such as diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, cetirizine. Non-sedating ones are Loratidine, though it will require a day or two to build up to effective levels.
To soothe itchy skin, try cold compresses, calamine lotion, a cool shower.

Chronic hives, however, can last for six weeks or more. Certain people have recurring outbreaks of hives for months or even years, and it's sometimes difficult to pinpoint the exact cause.
