Itchy skin, completely bruised!

Hey everyone...just lookin for some thoughts from other people.  For the last few weeks, I've had incredibly itchy skin.  Sometimes I get so itchy I scratch to the point of bruising badly!  Right now I have a large bruise covering the entire inside of my right thigh, and many smaller bruises on my left thigh.  As well I have a few small bruises on my upper arms and lower legs from scratching so much.  It's the winter time, so it could be just dry skin, so I've done the following to help my situation: less hot showers, I use in shower moisturizer every day, plus have been putting extra lotion on during the day as well.  I am also taking an allergy medicine for seasonal allergy purposes, but it doesn't seem to help.

There is no rash, and I haven't changed anything like detergents or soaps recently.  It's just my skin gets so itchy!  I can go a day or so without itching but the last week has been bad....My skin doesn't appear to me to be overly dry either.

I've been a little stressed, but nothing too major...and this has never happened when I've been even more stressed out than I am now, but I realize that stress and anxiety could be a cause.  I know that some other disorders can cause pruritus as well.  I've had liver problems due to a reaction to a drug, and have none of the other symptoms like aa accompanying rash, jaundice, anorexia, fever or abdominal fullness or pain.  I've had my thyroid tested twice in the past, and the only thing was my TSH was just over the high end of normal, everything else was fine and my doc didnt seem concerned.  My mom has polycythemia.  The only drugs I take are ClarinexD, and nexium for GERD.  Should I bother my doc with this or just deal with dry itchy skin?  I'm not paranoid about it, just got me curious...any responses are welcome!

I am experiencing the same problems. My legs itch like crazy (only when wearing jeans) it started last yr & I haven't changed my detergent or anything. I itch so bad that I have caused ridiculous size bruises on my thighs. Some small ones, but I keep 1 on each leg the size of a LARGE panacake. I have no health problems that I know of. But this scares me 2 thinking something is wrong now. If anyone finds out what causes this, please inform me?? Thanks, Ol_Girl

Have nerver had dry skin in 39 years only on top of hand due to washing probably 50 times daily as I work with special education children.  Suddenly had very itchy skin went to a Sunday emergency care go a shot of Steriod was diagnosed of have allergic reaction to something.  Went to Dermetologist two days later to be diagnosed with severly dry sking.  Bath in Dove sensitive skin and put baby oil and a perscription of medicated lotion.  Have bruising on stomach and legs has now cleared up but new dry patches occur daily and where the patches are so are the bruises.  Hope to find something out next week.  Will post what eventually works.  Good luck to those of us who is itching and bruising.

That is what I do body-wise. Arms. Legs, Scalp, Body, Butt, Hands and Feet. I sometimes feel like my Hair also itches. This of late as my pulse dropped to average 45 rpm.
I have Vasomotor-Rhinitis, (common Hey Fever) since October 1944,
DOB 03/03/24. Following a two week binge of acute tonsillitis while serving on the Hospital Ship, USS Samaritan. Never returned to active duty, Visual, Signalman. . . Medical Discharge August 1945. Honorable of course. A pretty good history of sneezing, belching, wheezing, sneezing, and trumpeting and antihistamines unlimited. .  .
I am searching for non itch sort of diet, and best itch suppressant (s) for my health and comfort.   ***@****      OH YEH,  ROSACEA TOO.

Strongly enough, I’ve not so much had the itching but I’ve had the bruising around my ankles and blotching all over my legs and arms. Now in the last 2 weeks the itching has started? Generally I itch due to hives, but this is different type of itching and is generally concentrated to 4 areas, ankles, lower legs wrist and top side of my hands, which has been increasing daily.  I used some witch hazel on legs and hands last night and the itching subsided dramatically, however other areas have now highlighted an increase of itching like my back and my front calf, however not so intensive.

In another ironic twist I changed my antihistamines last year around about when the bruising started, to Telfast, and I increased my dose this summer, due to hay fever and oddly enough the bruising has gotten worse and now the intense itching.......I read what some of you have written and believe whole heartedly that there could be a connection!!!!

Well for the past 4 weeks I have been scratching my itchy legs and some days my arms and back itch too but not as severe as my legs.  I have a large bruise on my right inner thigh and small ones on my left inner thigh and weird but I have small bruises too on both my ankle area.
I happen to take Prilosec for GERD and have been ANEMIC almost all my life.  I also have what they call HIATAL HERNIA which affects the Gerd somewhat more.  I am going to see my DR. soon since I am concerned that  my itchy bruised legs are related to my ANEMIA/GERD.
I feel checking up won't be as bad as not checking and knowing at an early stage for better treatment and results.

Oh my, that must be terrible. Try asking your dr for plain clarinex, it would be worth a try. Good luck to you.

I've been taking clarinex D for over a year now.  This whole itching thing started about 3-4 weeks ago....the big bruise on my thigh has finally gone away, but now i have tiny little ones all over my arms and legs because I continue to scratch....I've been trying not to, but sometimes I just can't help but scatch the itch....

Anything with a D in it (claritin-D) decongestant causes me to itch. Usually it's my hair/scalp. Antihistamines do it to me as well. How long have you been taking it? I thought that it was only used for short term use (10 days) or so?
You might try to use cortaid with aloe for the rash. Try rubbing it instead of scratching. Best wishes to you. tmv
