Lump on edge of bum cheek (where they rub together)

Hi. In January a lump (my girlfriend said it looked like a spot) came up rapidly on the edge of my left bottom cheek. Was red lump and had a white head. It went down within a couple of days. No discharge.

After a couple of days i noticed if i felt deep in my skin i could feel a lump - bigger than the size of a pea yet smaller than a grape (where the original spot/lump rapidly occurred). This has not gotten any bigger or smaller in the last 2 months. Once it felt a bit sore/itchy, when i felt there i was weeping and was able to release a small amount of clear brown fluid, and also thin pinky/red fluid. I would describe the smell of the fluid as being like "a wet dog".

The lump is still there - and whilst it is not growing, is sometimes uncomfortable. It is on the edge of my left bum cheek (where the bum cheeks touch, apart half way down (it is not a pilonidal sinus, i have had one of those lol)

If you look at the skin withough feeling the lump, all you would notice is a small grey/purple spot/really small patch in the skin right on the edge of the bum cheek. When i feel the top of the skin there is like a hard ridge with an indent in the middle which seems softer, like a crater. Im unable to get any other fluids out of it. It is not painful, just a little sore from time to time. i just know its there. Hot cloths improve any discomfort.

I have had antiboitic treatment for a carbuncle/infected sebaceous cyst on my thigh (i am having the remnants surgically excised in 2 months). This thigh lump came up two months before this lump on my bum cheek.

Do you have any idea what this could be? Could it be connected to the carbuncle/cyst on my thigh? They are quite far apart but on the same side.... but the carbuncle/cyst is healing nicely now.

Both lumps have occurred in hairy areas of skin that are susceptible to friction.

I really dont want to have an operation on my bottom too :(

Please advise

Thanks

SImon

Hi I have been reading this for the last 15mins and am still unsure as to what is going on. This small lump that looks like a freckle my mum said was itchy and is now sore as hell and I can't sit down properly, has formed on the side of my bum cheek, I have tried creams and ice packs but don't know what else to do. I honestly do not want to go to a Dr.

hi. I have this hard lump on my right bum cheek, actually its right in the middle where the bum cheeks rub together. It looks reddish and is really swallon. It is really painfull, since is hard for me to sit down or even walk. It came up once like 3months ago and it went down itself in days but at the moment i have this lump from a month now. in the last 2weeks it has increased in size. i have seen the doctor about this and i was given anti biotics and pain killers. the doctor told me if it keeps growing then it may cause me complications as it moves. he said that the complications may come if it moves down into the tail bone. I am reguraly sitting into hot baths but the lump is still the same. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME ? I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, I AM 19 YEAR old female AND AM SCARED. is there anything that i should have more concern about ?

Hello,
A boil does not sit for 4 months and usually it comes to a head. If it has been present for such a long time then other possibilities also need to be ruled out. It can be a small cyst or some swollen node which is presenting in such a way.
I sincerely suggest you to consult a dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hi Doctor.

Thank you for your reply regarding my post. I wanted to ask you a question if i may. Is it possible if this was a boil/buttock abscess then this would still be there 4 months later? It has never burst, come to a head or hurt very much at all. On the odd occasion there is a little discomfort. Size varies between half a pea and a pea. The one time i squeezed the lump i got a watery, almost orange colour liquid come from it. I am due to have minor surgery next week and am going to mention it to the GP, just wondered your opinion.

Best Regards, Simon

Hello,
From the symptoms it sounds like a boil or abscess on the buttocks. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin.

Boil on buttocks is usually due to plugged sweat glands that become infected or by an ingrown hair. . Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics and warm compresses. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and incision and drainage may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
