MELANOMA IN CHILDREN????????

Hello,
I know melanoma is rare in children but my son had a new mole on his thumb. It was small and brown in colour. I think it was there for 1-4 weeks. I'm scared whether this is a new melanoma mole. He peeled off the mole with nail clippers, there was no bleeding and normal skin underneath. It was located where people do thumbprints. If it was a new melanoma, would it be in situ? And it would be in the epidermis meaning that he peeled it all out
PLEASEEEE HELP!!!!
