Well, they looked at it. They said it looks fine since it is round without an uneven edge. However, they were concerned that it has grown rapidly. It was 12 mm which was bigger than I realized (it was on a spot on my back that was hard to see). Also concerning was the dark specks and that the bottom right side was lighter than the rest (again, I didn't realize that). So they shaved it to send in. They said it should be fine though. Glad that they are more confident than me. Not going to like the $500 bill though. Oh well. They said they will call me back in a couple weeks with results.
Hi,
The symptoms of Melanoma involves a mole, lump, or growth on the skin. Any change in appearance over time is a warning sign. It is helpful to know the ABCDEs of melanoma such as: asymmetry, borders: color:, diameter or evolution.
The development of melanoma is related to sun exposure and is most common among people with fair skin, blue or green eyes, and red or blond hair. Other risk factors include: family history of melanoma, presence of multiple birthmarks, obvious freckling on the upper back, three or more years spent at an outdoor summer job as a teenager, or high levels of exposure to strong sunlight. It is good that you will be seeing your doctor. Direct clinical examination is essential with the diagnosis of melanoma.
