Mystery Bug Bites

I have had what could be 2 separate conditions since the beginning of July.  At the beginning of July, I had a friend's kittens at my condo for the weekend. They were itchy & I was itchy.  Fearing they had fleas & not wanting to infect my cats, after they left I did a thorough cleaning. At the time, I had no visible signs of bites - just a rash that was very itch. My cats did not show any signs of fleas then, nor do they now.  In the middle of July, after the rash began to look like a series of bites (legs, arms, chest), I went to see a dermatologist. She suggested I had mites (not scabies given where the biting was) & prescribed permethrin.  After doing 2 courses of permethrin, the symptoms seemed to abate - in fact, I thought I was over it. Then, about 2 weeks ago, the issue came back. The bites are concentrated around my ankles, with a few on my chest & neck.  I also had about 20 bites on one hand 2 weeks ago. It was suggested that I have bed bugs, but an exterminator has ruled that out.  I often see small black spots or red spots at the bite site.  The bites are extremely itchy & my skin, generally, feels like something is crawling on it - especially my face & eyebrows, though I have no bites in these areas. Sometimes when I scratch in these areas, I see a small black spot or I find a very small hard white thing, that looks like an egg to me.  I have also treated myself for lice, with no signs of lice.  The biting seems to be worse at the office, though I do see the small black spots & occasional red spot outside of the office. I have had my office, car & home exterminated.  I wash all clothes, bedding & towels daily in hot water.  Do you have any idea what this could be?  Thank you.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
One possibility for these symptoms could be body lice. Body lice also spread through close contact with other people and presents as itchy red bumps. Wash the Clothing, bedding, and towels in hot water and dry them in sun after machine drying them. Topical permethrin or Lindane cream may be needed which are available by prescription only.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
