Oily hair

I am a 25 year old normal healthy person. I have suddenly gotten oily hair on the crown of my head even right after showering, and no matter how much I was my hair it will not go away. It has lasted about 2 weeks now, and seems to be getting worse. I have never had extremely oily hair, and I know it is not because I am washing my hair incorrectly.  Has any one else had this happen, and how long does it usually last.

This discussion is related to suddenly oily hair that won't correct.

The main reason why your hair becomes greasy is because of lack of water intake and a proper diet. Some other ways you can use is by using a different shampoo other than the regular one. Also pouring diluted listerene mouth wash on the oil scalp can reduce the oiliness. Hope this helps. :)

Just an update on mine. After posting, I washed my hair twice with regular shampoo (very vigorously), and a final time with a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner.  When I dried my hair I avoided brushing my crown and after that it went away, I haven't had the problem since.  I spoke to a coworker who said she had the exact same thing a few years ago when she was going through an extremely stressful time.  Her symptoms were the same as mine, although I wasn't going through any extreme stress.  I had lost about 30 pounds in about 3 months after starting a new medication that decreased my appetite, so maybe my body was physically stressed.

Hope that helps a little bit?!

Gah! Same here! It just started about 4 days ago, at first I thought I had forgotten to rinse my hair in the shower.  The next day it happened I thought maybe something greasy had gotten on my brush...so the 3rd day I paid very close attention to it and found out it's actually my hair just being greasy.  I've NEVER had this problem before now.

I'm a 32-year old woman, I use Pantene 2-in-1 and absolutely no product on my hair.  After reading all the posts it dawned on me that several months ago I noticed a scaly/dry patch right in the front of my scalp (above my forehead) and thought it was strange.  I had forgotten about that until just now, so maybe it's related and is a form of dermatitis after all?

A little more info that might be useful (?), 5 months ago I started Adderall and lost 17% of my body weight, about 6-7 months ago I noticed my skin getting slightly oilier and I was breaking out on my chest, about 4-6 months ago I started having extreme PMS symptoms when I'd never before had them in my life.  I went to the Gyno and she said that's normal......so at this point I don't know.

Dermatitis? Hormonal?

It has nothing to do with the pill, I am a 30 year old male and am not taking the pill. Just had this happen, changed shampoo, still have it. Just gonna shave my head... sure you can all do it too, but you girls and women might look funny.

My daughter is having the same problem. We were wondering if it may have something to do with being on the pill. She is currently taking Jolessa a generic form of seasonale. Can you let me know if this is a common factor for everyone?

I too am having the same problem, and have been now for over 2 months!  I am at a loss on what to do.  I have tried all kinds of different shampoos and products, professional and not.  I had started a new medication about a month before and thought this might be the result of the medication, but my doctor assures me this is not the case.  I have been sick with just typical run of the mill stuff, but nothing siginificant and once better, the condition did not change.  I have been taking vitamins and this hasn't helped.  If it's hormones, then what do we do to correct this?  I just need to know which doctor I should go see, a dermatologist, a gynecologist, or a g.p.?  Because at this point, something has got to be done.  Help!

i am currently having the same problem i washed my hair and then I went to blow dry it and it felt very thick and greasy in that one spot only the first day I thought i didnt wash the shampoo out all the way but i made sure the next day to fully rinse my hair.... I then changed shampoo and that didn't help either.... I am getting over a sinus infection and taking an antibiotic that i have never taken before I thought that may have something to do with it.... My doctor says he is not sure that the medicine would cause this

let me know if you have found anything out about it and I will do the same as well!

Thanks
Cat

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

I believe I have responded to a previous post already?

I suggest that you have a dermatologic consult done as oily hair may be associated with seborrheic dermatitis.Seborrheic dermatitis may present as scales  on the scalp, face, axilla and the chest. Frequent shampooing is indicated. Seborrheic dermatitis may be due to a lot factors .Among these are stress related. Certain food intake and alcohol ingestion have also been implicated. It is best to avoid these when necessary. Shampoos containing selenium sulfide may help. However, your physician will help you assess on how severe the situation is so that proper management of your condition be done.
