Patch of Irregular Skin after Probable Fungal Infection

About a month and half ago I had what looked like a typical fungal infection on my left ankle, typical dry patchy skin with a red ring around it that's itchy. I applied triderm cream to it (containing anti-bacterial / anti-fungal / low dose steroids) and it seemed to have gotten better, no longer itchy and the patch was blending in to the skin.

Then it got worse again, now a bigger patchy with white spots in it, still circular in general and with red spots around the white patch. I have a photo of it on my phone but unsure how to upload it here.

I went to the GP last week and she told me it was probably just "dry skin", which I am very skeptical of, but she sent me away with "apply some moisturisers". And now it's definitely worsened in terms of size and what it looks like. The spot is not itchy nor painful, it's just kind of there and I am very confused why anything would last so long, also it doesn't look like any "healing" as the GP stated.
