Peeling Lips Part 2

Im 23 years old and have a problem w/ my lips peeling for about 5 years now.  I know some of you on here are having the same problem and dont know what is causing this or what can help our situation.  I have been to many doctors in many states and none of them have been able to cure, help, or take serious action twords our problem.  This is very frustrating for me, and I feel that my life is on hold.  My problem started when I was 18.  One day I stepped out of the shower and noticed my lips were macerated(soaked).  They outer skin was white and fragile.  Not knowing what this was I started touching them and rubbing them and the skin started to peel off.  There was no blood or pain.  Many of you have had other symptoms that were noticeable such as red patches and stuff, but I never had any warning.  Anyways, I thought what ever peeled off would just heal itself in a day or two and that never happened.  Now every time the skin begins to heal it gets wet from saliva, eating, showering,(your basic everyday living conditions) and peels.  I've been to many dermatologists and I've been to their GRAND ROUNDS were I was put on display for other doctors to look at and come up with a solution for my problem.  They were baffled.  I've been on every cortosteriod(topical and liquids, every stength) aquaphor, prednosone, valtrex, Ive had biopsy's(forgive my spelling) and they show nothing wrong.  Doctors are stunned and dont know what to do.  This is a very serious matter but because there are so few of us that have this I dont think there is any funding to cure our problem.  As far as me and my doctors knew I was the first person to have this thing.  I've searched on the Internet for years to find some answers for this problem and just now found this site, thank god.  But, some of you have posted your symptoms with this forum years ago, im so dissapointed that im only finding you now.  I pray to god that you come back to this site to see if anyone replies to your questions or to find if anyone else posts questions to this problem.  I know exactly what you are going through and would like to talk to your and maybe meet you. We need to do something unless you already have answers.  If you have been cured then please repond asap under Peeling Lips ect..
I have the same symptoms, red lips from peeling and imflamation, a little burning and itching from imflamation and constant peeling and maceration.  I myself am baffled as to what could have caused this.  Ive went over in my head a million time what I did different that month, week, day and year when I got this and have come up with nothing.  To the doctor that reads this how can us victims get together as a group and get someone to take us seriously and become committed to helping us.   Also how can I get ahold of the people who have post similar questions with these obvious symtoms in this forum.  It is very important(urgent) that we come together on solve this problem.  My email is ***@****

Hi Guys,
I am 27 years old and even I am having the same problem from past 5 years.
What is happening is that whenever my lips come in contact with water(or any liquid), they become white and the outer layer completely peels off. This just goes on and on.There is absolutely no pain or itching. Doctors have suggested a number of creams/lotions and ofcourse vaseline, but nothing has helped.
About 4 months before I started to have this problem, I had a skin infection called Herpes Zoaster, which resulted in few red painfull blisters near my shoulder. This was cured in about 15 days. Then later after 4 months, I started noticing this peculiar problem with my lips. Although the doctors say that these two are not related, something makes me feel that the problem with my lips could have been triggered by Herpes Zoaster(because when I search the internet for diseases related to lips, in some links I find a mention of Herpes).

I just hope that someone finds a cure for this.

WOW, am I happy to see that Im not alone!
My problems started about 1 1/2 months ago.  I had a recurring rash on elbows for sometime and found it to be granuloma annulare, had it two years and it has subsided and disappeared with the help of kenalog and patience.
Now, Its my lips.  Ive always been paranoid of fever blisters, cold sores etc, knowing it is Herpes I or II if from genital/oral conversion.
Very very sore, peeling after small tiny blisters pop, ooze, and then touching it peels the skin.  To the touch, forget it, Burns, hurts....when licked it tastes metally, bloody, tangy,,, and HURTS .  It started on the left lower lip, and especially below the lip line.  Very itchy.  Had used the 'wet' gloss of the Cover Girl new permanent lip stick, the clear that comes with it, and WHAM, all heck broke loose.  I also have been sunning daily, no sunscreen, for about 3-6months straight.  I love to sun,, my mom seems to think it may be from the sun.  The first bout, cleared up after about 2 wks,it was nice and normal for about 48 hrs, and here I sit again, now Its been going on since first week in October.  Ive used Zilactin liquid, it just numbs it temporarily, Zinc Oxide, relieves the pain momentarily and dries it out yet oozes more, Neosporin with pain reliever, that was a no no, Carmex no good, Chapstick moisturizers with sunscreen i like,  Blistex medicated has cooling effect, and the list goes on.  I ahve steroid cream from the annulare yet im afraid to put a steroid on my lips. They are so swollen, no skin, oozing and in sooo much pain, Im at wits end. The soonest appt with my dermatologist is this Friday the 1st of Nov.
I did several months ago, swab my lips with my clean pore nuetrogena to get off lipstick, and also used baby oil with vit e immediately thereafter to remove the rest.

I have had sore burning lips and slight cracking in the corners of the lips which burned and hurt years ago when I had a candida infection (vaginal) for years.  Eventually it went away.
I have also experienced sore lips and cracks in the corners (sometimes red spots seem to be under skin on lips first) when I use asthma inhalers for a while.
This is interesting to meAnd sometimes it would happen for no reason.  It usually lasted a month of two and then left, except for the candida experience.

This is interesting to me right now because as I write I am I reminiscing as well.  I have not worked for three years now as I am disabled but, conversely, I have not had this problem since I left work!  I was employed in a heaaaaaaavy financial position and they were sore and cracked quite a bit!  I wonder if stress means anything.  Just a thought.  Good luck and prayers. I too have been experiencing that problem as well.  I was told by my dentist that it may be happening because of "drooling".  I have been told by my significant other that I sometimes drool at night when I sleep.  I have had braces and still have a permanent retainer on my lower teeth.  This may be why I sometimes drool at night (grosss!) and the dentist said this may be why my lips peel sometimes.  This may help, but if not, just know that your not the only one experiencing this phenomena.  Also have you checked to see if your lacking any vitamins or nutrients or whatever?  My mom said that may be a cause of it too.  Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear about your problem.  If you've baffled so many doctors whp have seen and tested you in person, I guess I really can't add anything myself.  Perhpas some of my respondents will be able to.
