Plantars Warts

How do we get a plantars wart and does it only come up on the bottom of feet? Also, is it infectious or contagious?

Shelly:

The word "plantar" reers to the bottom ("plantar surface") of the foot.  Plantar warts are tougher to get rid of than most others (warts on the palm side of the hand behave the same way), but they're still just on the surface of the body.  Warts only affect the epidermis, even if they feel deep.

Despite all the folklore (that you catch warts from showers, locker rooms, and pools, etc.), warts are generally not contagious.  They go away eventually if you leave them alone, but that can take years, and if they're painful to walk on, treatment (freezing, acid) makes sense.

best.

two doctors have diagnosed the small pink eruptions on my penis as genital warts  although one dr. said he didn't know and he didn't think so.  What kind of test can I have taken to determine if this is contagious or not?  I worry that I may give it to some one else and need peace of mind.

About 2 years ago I started getting something that looked like rough skin around my fingers, I kept cutting it off but I would bleed and then it would become bigger and darker. I later found out this was a wart. I've trying to get rid of it but nothing works and now I have warts all over my hands. What should I do?

I have a 17 year old daughter who has had warts on her finger tips for 3 years.  She has been treated with liquid nitrogen several times and the warts keep coming back.  Now they are spreding all over her finger tips, she treats them with over-then-counter salicylic acid 17% warts medicine. With this medication the warts are significantly reduced, however they reappear 2-3weeks later. Is there any oral medication that can be given to her to stop them from spreding? Or what else can be done?

Thanks Robert

I have heard aspirin works, if you put it on the wart with a bandage.

Just a note to say that the best cure for plantars warts is salt water, preferably from the ocean.  I had them for 2 or 3 years, and had them burned, different things, very painful, then I went on an island for a couple of weeks in the summer and being in the salt water caused them to go away.  I picked them up at a local swimming pool, was glad to get rid of them.

I had a wart that returned, and returned (scrached it off) and got larger all the time, went to a derm. he cut it off, and then he sparked it with a electrical device, (sounded like high-voltage, for 5 sec. or so) he said it would not come back when he did the removal that way. I has been almost a year an has not returned.

I had TONS of planter worts on my feet ( almost 20).  I eventually had them burned witha laser.  It worked great!!!!  They numbed my foot so there was no pain and they never came back.  It's the best way to go - trust me, I tried them all!

I an on my feet almost 24-7 walking or even playing with my children is getting very painful. I have reache an alturnative to use a acid solution and a razor blade but as you all well no cut to deep and it hurts worse then the actual wart itself.. would you have any other remendys for getting rid of these things.

I had warts on both of my thumbs for years.  I had them taken off twice by a dermatologist and they kept growing back.  I also had lazer surgery to remove them, but still they returned.  Finally someone said to try Tea Tree Oil (you can get it at a health food store or GNC).  I rubbed it on my warts twice a day for approximately six weeks - at first I didn't see any change, but during the sixth week they began to slowly disappear - within 1 week from then they were gone!  And, have never returned.  Why it works, I don't know but it does!  The catch is that you have to continue using it daily for at least six weeks  - for most of that time you won't see any change but then one week they will start to disappear.  It is worth a try

My five-year-old son got plantars wart from borrowing ice skates from a cousin who had them.  For weeks we used an OTC plantar wart remover preparation.  The areas around the warts began to look very irritated, red, and peeling.  The warts actually looked larger than they had been to begin with; and at this point, I stopped using the OTC stuff. After getting the little guy out of the tub one night...those warts looked SO nasty--I remembered a friend telling a story about her sister having plantar warts and using clear nail polish to get rid of them. I figured, hey, can't hurt to try...not really believing it would work, of course.  But, within a very short time (one to two weeks) those babies were gone...and with just one application. I was amazed...these warts had spread, and he had had about eight of them, some on each foot.  I would be interested to see if the clear nail polish works for anyone!  Good Luck!!!

Want to get rid of plantars warts? Duct tape! They can't live if there isn't air. COMPLETELY cover the area with duct tape and change once or twice daily. I had them once and heard from a friend that her son's doctor told them to use duct tape. I couldn't believe it. My doctor had tried to freeze them off but it didn't work. The duct tape worked! It may take a week or two but they go away. If they're too uncomfortable, also use the little pads that come with the wart removers. This helps a lot. Good luck. Julie

Believe it or not our podiatrist suggested taking tagament for plantar warts. Some studies have been done to suggest it works. We did try it and it worked

I have recently developed planters warts; (about 3 weeks ago).  These warts hurt so badly I can barly walk.  I have been surfing the internet to find an at home treatment, but I have had no luck in my process.  I would like to know if there is a at home treatment.
           Thank you: Corey
