Planters Warts Scare.

Hello, I'm a 16 year old male who believes he has Planters Warts on the bottom of his feet. Every now and then when I walk the two spots where I believe they are, hurts when I walk. I'm a little scared because i've never had to deal with anything like this before besides when I was 2 I accidently cut my foot open. but I dont think that is what caused it. I'm like the Average Teenage male who sits around and plays video games. I do get out to Take my GED classes. whenever I wear shoes it doesn't bother me, but when I walk around my house barefoot it hurts for a split-second and then it stops for the rest of the day. I took pictures of them on my feet. I have one on both of my feet. I really hope that its not a Planters Wart and just a Rough patch of skin. I know what it really is but I cant spell it. im going to upload the photos, Please tell me its not Planters Warts and if it is, how can I keep it from growing like what im seeing in this wiki.

I'd definitely get them checked out by a Podiatrist.  Leaving them alone could only get worse and lengthen your treatment time.  I wouldn't ignore them.  I've had Plantars Warts that were treated and would just come back.  I've been fortunate enough to find a Podiatrist who was old fashioned and more agressive with the treatment and now I'll be finished in a couple of weeks.  But I will say, I will periodically go back to him to be checked out.  Those darn things affected walking on the foot.  I waited too long.  Please, see your doctor.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for posting the pictures, this was slightly helpful.  Firstly,  may I ask how long you have had these?

Secondly, my instant reaction was that they looked like Varucca's, not any kind of wart.  Normally, warts protrude upwards away from the skin and dont usually cause the redness and swelling seen here.

The pain you mentioned which is brief when you walk bare-footed also sounds indicative of Varucca.  I will explain to you why.

The varucca is visable at the surface of the skin.  Usually, the appear on the foot.  The look like small white rings, or craters, and soemtimes start to look like warts.  Underneath the skin, there is a large root which grows from the head of the surface, down to inside the foot.  If you can imagine looking at an x-ray of a tooth - it is very much like this.  Sometimes the root can grow fairly long.

The pain you could be feeling is the pressure put onto the varucca root which is usually a sharp pain - especially if the varucca appears on the ball of the foot, or even the heel.  This pain is usually caused by walking.

I certainly wouldnt be worried about this, but I would try to abstain from walking around barefooted as if this is a varucca, it is highly contageous and can be passed onto other.

My advice would be to visit your local doctor and explain your symptoms and he will take it from there.  But once again Andrew, this certainly isnt anything to lose sleep over at this stage.

Let me know how you get on.

Hope this helps,

Adam
