Went to the dr today for a bite and he says it's either a bee sting or a wasp sting he gave me .20 mg of prednisone 3 pills for 10 days....why is that?  I thought I should get an antibiotic.

Hello,
Oral steroids are prescribed in insect bites to reduce any swelling, any systemic allergic reaction and to counteract the inflammation associated with bee sting. Antihistaminics like Benadryl are also taken to relieve itching and provide soothing effect to the skin.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hi,

thanks for  the query

your doctor may have given it to you to reduce limb edema. antibiotics are needed only when there is infection. but tetanus injection is needed. pain and swelling can be reduced by cold compression.

wish you a good health and speedy recovery
