Prickly itchy skin

For the past few months on & off i have been experiencing itchy skin which is of a prickly sensation. I get this tingly prickly/ itchy sensation everywhere. I havent noticed that it has anything to do with anything like heat/cold, it just comes on out the blue. My skin doesnt look red or has no spots, it is dry but not badly, just a little.

The only medication i take at present is 5-htp but cant find a link with this. I would appreciate some specialist input if possible.

many thanks

Nicola

Hi

This may be a reaction to the medications. I would suggest that gradually stop taking this and inform your primary physician about this. Try to observe if the symptoms will still persist even without the medications. Drink plenty of water to improve circulation and urination. Medications once broken down and used by the body are excreted or released through the urine in most cases. So drink plenty of water and engage in regular exercises.

Hi

When did you start taking the medications?

Would you say that the itchiness began when you have started taking the medications?

I suggest that you have this assessed by your physician prescriber so that he /she may try to assess your use of the medication and if there is a need to modify such. You have no other known triggers at this point and it seems that the medication was what you have obviously pointed out. There are times when adverse drug events may occur and this varies from person to person. Some patients appear to be more susceptible than others.

You may need an antihistamine for the itchiness. Also ,do you have any change in urinary pattern?
