Despite great advances in the treatment of psoriasis,Coal tar remains gold standard as an ext application for plaque psoriasis.Steroid cremes do help, but int.steroids are contraindicated.Oral zinc is good.Cure remains yet as unachieved but then relief and remissions are achievable.
I have bad psoriasis for over 30 years. Tried everything out there, coal tar creams, Steroid creams, uv lights, psoralens, vitamin b6 injection...what have you. Then I tried Enbrel which gave me hope, because almost half of my body was cleared and after 2 years, I couldn't go beyond any further than a few stubborn patches. Finally I moved to Humira and Oh my my I have a new lease on social interaction. I can now wear my short sleeves in summer. The only thing I have is the old scars which are clearing slowly, but thank God, it does not bother me. There is also a small patch on my legs which is ignoring what ever I trow at it. But yes, Humira saved me as well as psoriatic arthritis that was developing too. I have had no complications with infections and I am so grateful. This disease is surely genetic with environmental predisposition and hope we finally nail it down for good.
