Pubic. Itchy. Flaky. Persistent!

So I've read some other posts and some sound similar but not exactly spot on.

Basically about two months ago, I got very itchy down there and was distractedly scratching while watching TV. All of a sudden I noticed I was scratching quite a lot and checked the area to find it really red. I stopped and went to bed and woke up to find what I can only describe as a carpet burn like mark from all the scratching (just above my penis - it's the pubic area as opposed to my actual genitles). Then over the next few days the rest of the pubic area became itchy and extremely flakey with dry skin. The carpet burn like sore began to heal but then I'd scratch without knowing  and flare it up again. The sore is almost gone now, and even though the itchiness/dry skin comes and goes from day to day, the area is still far itchier/has more dry skin, than before this first happened two months ago.

I've tried trimming the hair, changing my boxers throughout the day, applying moisturiser and Vitamin E Oil but it can still get really red, flaky and itchy. I also have never had sex and haven't had any oral sex in about 6 months. Any advice?

Hello,
Eczema is term for a group of medical conditions that cause the skin to become inflamed or irritated. It is often caused by allergies to common natural inhalants and intolerance to some foods but sometimes it is an overactive response by the body's immune system to a bacterium that normally lives on the skin or an irritant. However , eczema is commonly found in families with a history of other allergies or asthma.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Kind regards.

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I'll give your advice a try for a few weeks and see if there are any improvements.

I have a question though; can you suddenly develop eczema all of a sudden aged 19? Are there any reasons why it would come about? As far as I know I'm not allergic to anything.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the advice!

Hello,
From the symptoms you have mentioned, it seems to be a case of Eczema. It is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema.

Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.

For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

If still the symptoms do not improve then pls get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I have similar itching on the pubic hair area since few years. I think it started when I began using a razor. Itching is there wherever hair is present and I have been using candid B cream since then. Itching subsides while using the cream and reappears after stopping. I have tried applying it for two weeks. But itching recurred. Then i  consulted a doctor and she advised me to continue on candid B, keep the area clean and wash with warm water, avoid tight inners ..etc . I followed it for one month, but itching recurred. Then the doctor prescribed fluconazole tablet once in a week for one month. But still there's no change. Please help me.
