My foot's a bit gross - dried skin

Hi there,

Sorry for asking something fairly trivial, but I've had this for bloody ages now and don't really want to bother the doctor about it.

I have some pretty bad dried skin on one of my feet (interestingly, the other is fine!) as shown in the picture attached.

I've tried all sorts to try and clear it up; regular moisturiser, vaseline, athlete's foot cream and a couple of others but it doesn't seem to have any impact at all.

If it helps, it seems to get worse every time I play sports. For example, if I go running once a week, it'll gradually get very slightly better over the course of the week, then get really bad again once I've done some excercise, but it never comes close to clearing up.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks :)

That's great, thanks for the reply - Ive actually got some Athlete's foot treatment here (both spray and a cream) but didn't have much joy with either unfortunately, will start to re-apply it and see how I get on, thanks :)

Hi,
IT could be a very mild case of Athlete' foot or Tinea pedis. It is a parasitic fungal infection of the epidermis of the human foot. The term "athlete's foot" refers to the disease and not the organism (fungus) that causes it. Several different fungi, called dermatophytes, can cause tinea pedis.
The fungal infection is often treated with topical antifungal agents, which can take the form of a spray, powder, cream, or gel. The most common ingredients in over-the-counter products are miconazole nitrate (2% typical concentration in the United States) and tolnaftate (1% typ. in the U.S.). Terbinafine, marketed as Lamisil is another over-the-counter drug.

On a side note, I used a bugmenot account to post this - after reading through some of the other posts on this account I wish I hadn't bothered, heh!
