Please Help Dr,
I am really confused about these sores on my bottom lip. I guess I should give you a brief overall history before I proceede with my questions. I am a 24yr old male. Two weeks ago (March 16) I preformed unprotected oral sex on a female, and recieved protected oral sex, which has caused me a great amount of anxiety. I have even posted a question regarding some burning and painful urination to Dr. Hansfield, which he answered. Almost all of my guilt stems from the fact that I am engaged and living in another country (away from my fiancee). I like most people who have questions like this, was really drunk and extremely lonely, and really regret ever even coming to this country. Also, I have had oral Herpes as a child, and I have a history of canker sores and gingivitis. Almost one week ago, March 25, I developed a red raised bump in the middle of the right side of my bottom lip. I immediatley thought it was a cold sore due to my anxiety and stress. But the sores never wept or got any bigger. Since then I have also developed one on the left side, almost in the same spot. The thing that bothers me, is that these bumps have seemed to dissipate in heighth, but I now have silvery-grayish-white spots, numerous, about six on BOTH sides. Some are linear, some are circular, some are growing together, and some are bigger than others. They do not appear to be filled with fluid, or raised enough to possibly have fluid. Really they appear as though they are burns. They are quite sensitive, like a burn. I am beginning to become even more nervous as the sores seem to be working their way into my mouth. As I said, they started in the middle of my lip and are moving backwards. When I woke up this morning the inside of my lip directly below both patches was irritated and raised. I have no other sores inside my mouth, except the typical sensitive gums that I always have battled. Yesterday, I went to a urologist and was diagnosed with prostatitis, and have been taking medication for 18hrs or so. While picking up my prescription, I also purchased a cream for Oral Herpes, Aciclovir, but it seems to not have helped at all, as the sores are moving. So I guess here are my questions:
* Is my condition indicitive of Oral Herpes?
* I thought canker sores only developed inside the lips, not outside, but they appear to look like canker sores (grayish white, small)- if this is not Oral Herpes, then what is it?
*Could my condition be related to my sexual encounter, and if so, what are my possible issues?
* Is this Oral Cancer? I am a smoker, and am extremely nervous about this.
*I have a doctors appointment for next Thursday, April 6th, should I try to see someone sooner?
* Could my lip irritation be a result of the prostatitis?
*Can you suggest anything else that could help my problem?
Thank you very much for your time, it is greatly appreciated. I know you are busy, and I think this service is a wonderful thing, it helps people like me very much. Thanks again.
