Red rash on upper lip

I have a red rash-looking thing on my upper lip.  It covers my entire upper lip and looks almost like a red mustache.  It doesn't hurt or itch or anything and is not warm to the touch.  It has been there for a couple of months.  I have tried Hydrocortisone cream 1% and 2%, but that has done nothing.  I have noticed it getting a little bit darker.  I am female and so I am quite embarrassed by it.  My makeup does not cover it up that well.  I don't shave or wax my upper lip and haven't changed up my makeup or facial lotions.  What else can I do?

Hi, I have the exact same thing & can’t figure it out! Most recently started laser treatments to help reduce the redness. It is exactly as you described, a red mustache. Doesn’t burn, itch, isn’t painful, just a red flat mustache shaped “rash”?! Fingers crossed you found a treatment that works! If so, I’d love to know or if not, what else have you tried? TIA!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms it can be dermatitis, contact dermatitis, cheilitis or perioral dermatitis. Take some vitamin B complex for some days and see if your symptoms improve.
Secondly,it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema("Atopic" refers to a group of diseases where there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever). Cheilitis(Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis.Diagnosed by bld test like RAST.Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases.Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful.
My sincere advice is to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
