Ringworm or Psoriasis? Seen Two Doctors...

Hello,

A year ago I was spending about 4 to 5 days in an MMA gym wrestling kickboxing etc for a couple of hours each day. After showing one day I noticed my left shin had a perfectly round area of skin paler than the rest. Not in the shape of a ring but a disc that was solid about the size of a quarter. I forgot about it for a while and eventually went to a dermatologist last year and was told it was psoriasis. I had it also on my scalp in the front and back. Nothing on my body elbows feet or nails. The first doctor prescribed Fluocinonide Gel which made the skin dry up and the dead layer peel off but it didn't go away. The second doctor a month ago looked at a scraping under a microscope but said it wasn't fungus or ringworm and again said it was Psoriasis. He wanted to see if a fungus medication would help and gave me a sample of Gris Peg 250mg it was 6 bottles, 4 pills each. I took one pill twice a day with food as he told me. That's 12 days of medications right? The paper in the box said treatment could be 4-6 weeks maybe longer for different types of ringworm. I had a follow up visit just a few days ago and showed him my leg which was improving as far as I could tell, I said maybe the 12 days wasn't enough and he said he gave me 21 days worth of Gris Peg I told him maybe I made a mistake but I have 6 empty bottles right here 4 pills each 2 a day correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that just 12 days of medication? My scalp improved and my leg with it.

About the photos, the top two were taken right after shower and scrubbing my leg after the medications it was much less inflamed, not as red, and seemed to be going away. The bottom two photos are of my leg the next day after it's dried up. The April 16th bottom left photo you'll see in the bottom left of my leg two round spots, the smaller one almost went away entirely while taking the Gris Peg. The dryness, scaling, flaking etc seen in the May 25th pic is much better than how it used to really dry up before the medication.

Also during my follow up visit he gave me a bunch of cortizone shots in my leg and scalp and said just to get some sun light on it every day when possible, and come back for shots if needed.

I would really like to get some opinions on the photos, thank you

Pete

Hello,
From the symptoms the possibility fo psoriasis is there. However to completely rule out fungal infection, you should get KOH examination of the skin scrapings and fungal culture done. Also get a biopsy skin to rule out psoriasis. Psoriasis is a long-term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin.It is thought that psoriasis occurs when the immune system overreacts, causing inflammation and flaking of skin.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
