Scalp Irritation and Hair Loss due to Minoxidil

I am devastated and regretted what I had done.
I wanted to grow hair and prevent hair loss problem from occuring therefore I uses Minoxidil 5% on my scalp.
My hair is perfectly fine. I doesn't have hairloss problem.

I started using Minoxidil on 20 Oct 2007. One week or so, I noticed that my hair loss amount each day had reached a shocking amount. Averages 500 daily. After each night of sleep, I counted the amount of hair fallen onto my pillow and it reached around 200 which was already way beyond the normal range.
As I am shocked by this, I tried more doses of Minoxidil on my scalp instead.
Hoping the hair loss will be curb. I researched online and seek advice from doctor and they told me that Minoxidil will control hair loss and grow new hairs, but I never experienced that.
After using Minoxidil, my scalp felt itchy, the itch can become so intense that it felt like pain when my dose increases. After I uses Minoxidil, I experienced lots of dandruff, the Trichologist I visited told me that the dandruff was the residue of Minoxidil which was left on my scalp.

On 21 Nov 2007, I stopped using Minoxidil after I visited a Dermatologist who advise me to stop. My hairloss improves.
I didn't grew any hair, instead, I lost around 40% of my original hair amount.

My condition improves in around end december, where some new hairs starts growing out.

However, I noticed many of these new hairs starts falling off and my hairloss amount increases again. I am feeling needle prickling pain on my scalp too. There is lots of white-yellow stuff coming off my scalp too.

On my recent visit to my dermatologist, he diagnosed that I have scalp irritations due to Minoxidil.
My doctor gave me Elomet Lotion (Mometasone Furoate) to apply on the whole scalp twice daily now.

Will Minoxidil damage my hair follicles?
Will the overdosage of Minoxidil causes a permanent hairloss for me?
Will I be able to regain the amount of hair I had initially?

I will confess that I don't know exactly what your problem is, but one this is sure: you can't damage your follicles permanently with minoxidil.  In fact, I've never heard of that drug damaging anything.  So to start with, please stop panicking about that.  I think what the doctor prescribed to reduce inflammation makes sense.  White-yellow stuff doesn't just come out of the scalp, unless you rub the scalp and make it come out.  Could you be doing that?  If so, please stop,  I suggest that you keep working with your doctor on this.  Your worry is understandable but too much, and isn't doing you any good.  Repeat: you did not damage your scalp permanently with minoxidil.

Best.

I guess your dermatologist recommended something, but what I use and what is excellent for your scalp is Nizoral. Use it twice a week it will clean out all the **** from your scalp and provide a healthy environment for hair loss. Minoxidil is **** because it can irritate your scalp(especially at 5%) and even caus other problems. If you suffer future hairloss I would reccommend proscar( it is propecia but get a pill cutter and cut pills into 4) you have to take it every day but it works for almost everyone to prevent hairloss and maybe grow back more. It has worked for me.
You probably do not need it now but I do recommend the nizoral, and maybe go to a hair specialist center and talk to them(maybe lazer stimulation would help)

Hi,

If the Dermis Papilla is gone, will our body creates another Dermis papilla?
If the Dermis Papilla is gone, will it be lost forever? Thus the follicle will nvr grow hair again?

Hi Doctor,
I never scratch my scalp as I know it will damage my scalp and hair follicles.
However, after a night of sleep I noticed more of the dandruff stuff fallen on my pillow and on my scalp. Quite a lot of hair accompanies it.
I think it is due to me moving my head while shifting sleeping positions while sleeping that caused some rub against my scalp which cause more of this stuff being fallen off.

My doctor said my scalp had skin irritation due to minoxidil use..

He gave me Mometasone Furoate to apply twice a day for 3 weeks.
I head Mometasone Furoate will cause the skin to thin. Will it cause more damage to my scalp?
