Scrotum from hell!

Not sure why we can't just continue to discussion on the original post but in any case.  I, too, have had this problem since I'd say about 1997 so the past 12 years.

Here is what happens to me.

On the left side of my scrotum I experience flair ups of itching, redness, elephant type swelling where the skin is almost accordian like, eventual drying and tiny flaking of the skin.  The itching is insane and only gets worse when will power is low like while sleeping.  I do my best to NOT itch but of course its gonna hit when I'm half out of it.  If my nails are longer than normal at that time it spells real trouble as that is when the skin breaks only causing the situation to get worse.  This has been going on for so long now the skin rarely returns to a normal smooth state if at all.  The flair ups come and go with really no pattern.  I can't say they are heat or cold induced as I've had normal and the elephant skin in both environments.  However when its in the flared state heat and wetness are the enemy!

These are things that I've done:

I've been to the general doctor who told me it was possibly jock itch or eczema and referred me to a dermatologist.  Did that for a while.  He had me on a very mild soap like Basis.  A laundry detergent free of anything.  Boxer shorts instead of briefs.  Even changed my diet which included alot of water.  He also gave me some sort of little white pill (It's been a while so I apologize I can't remember what it was).  None of these things worked.

I took matters into my own hands.  I remember wanting to get a really good look at the problem so I shaved my pubes on my scrotum and found that to be somewhat relieving surprisingly.  I could keep my scrotum dryer this way during flair ups as when they are moist and wet it just itches more.  (When its not in flare mode most and wet isn't a problem).  I have also been using the Cortizone 10 creme that you can get at any drug store and that seems to control the itch which helps me leave them alone and eventually the symptoms subside.  So this has been my life.  Normal... flare up, same large area on the left side of my scrotum... itch... creme... slowly back to normal.

Sounds like I have it under control but under control to me means no flare ups at all which has never happened.  The first post in this string is so dead on familiar I could have written it myself.  After 12 years you really get to know something well.  You try different methods and remedies and some are big disasters and cause such a flare up you swear if a knife was right next to you while in a half sleep you'd cut the damn thing off.  Others, like the Cortizone creme work so you try say using it all the time as a preventative but find that no... the symptoms still come back no matter what.

So I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with something they can't tell me what it is.  Can anyone tell me what the hell it is and if its somewhat common why the hell have we not developed something for it.  Some of these routines people have to go through are insane.  People are changing their lives more than some cancer patients I know!  Crazy.  So I'm on a down cycle now.  Worst is over, now the healing begins and I await it's return the next time around.  Just hoping there is someone out there that knows what we are dealing with.  I think I might try Tea Tree oil.  It's been years since I've tried a new method and I'm about at the end of my rope with this thing.

I've  been dealing with this for two years now. If I remember right it started two winters ago when I was gifted a couple pairs of nylon material long johns to stay warm since I work outside. During that time my nuts would get really sweaty and thats when it started.I try not to itch during the day but get woken up out of my sleep and itch like crazy until the skin starts to just melt off and its almost orgasmic.. And then the pain comes open cuts/scratches where the skin came off combined with the irritation of hairs touching the cuts when I walk hurts like hell. Ive tried shaving down there and its OK for a little while but as soon as the hair starts to grow back there it's double the itch! Ive tried bachitrasin for yeast infections tried calamine, hydrocortisone, aveeno eczema therapy, changing my diet, taking vitamins, oatmeal bath, not scratching (lol yeah right), shaving, keeping my junk extra dry, peroxide/ rubbing alcohol (do not do  very painful), fish oils cream that starts with keta something. So yeah pretty much everything.. Went to my doctor who told me to try a couple Benadryl or anything with a antihistamine. NONE of that has worked and its not getting better. Now when I really get a good luck at my balls I can see the discoloration half is starting to turn a lighter shade. Im seriously out of options..

Depressingly familiar posts! Guys, sorry to tell you, but you got yourself an STD. I got it with 15 after my long time girlfriend cheated on me with my best friend who had it in the first place :(. But that aside. I have that itchy **** now for 20 years and have a other 50 years to go lol.
So, for me the combination of Zyrtec(antihistamine), Aspirin(anti inflammatory) and Vitamin B12 helps pretty good. But you still should ware only shorts as underwear, sleeping naked, cutting your nails short and some cortisone creme if its really bad.
And guys if you are over ******* 30 like me then take these stupid vitamins and drink your water!
I know its *****, but just ******* do it! You will feel better. I like http://www.emergenc.com/products#!emergen-c-immune

Hope that helps. Good luck.

I had the same issue, I tried using cortisone cream, tinactin, lotrimin, alcohol, etc. One day out of desperation and willing to try anything I found some cream my son was prescribed for his eczema called "TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE Ointment USP" and after using it twice a day for 4 days the situation on my balls cleared up. I suffered with this issue for almost 18 months, and it was gone after 4 days. From time to time if I start getting an itch down the I apply the ointment and it goes away.  Hope this helps, good luck to all.

i can't believe i've wanted so long to search this out online and found this website. All of your stories are mine. The waking up in the middle of the night scratching like crazy, the flare ups and so forth. When i read the person said they were seriously concidering cutting things off i knew i was at the right place because i have thought the same thing, i said to myself, 'do i really need them?'.

I have tried using tea tree oil, if you are pretty bad as far as skin broken and want to try tea tree PLEASE use only and i mean only a very very very little bit to start. I put some on of Q-tip and apply. As like the other methods it provides some result but not total cure.

I was thinking if there is some critter involved or some 'living' organism embedded in the skin that the doctors don't want to take the time to try and  find. The reason why i suggest this is because when i apply tea tree oil when standing over the toilet i sea the water re-act as if something is dropping into it and things begin the swirl around in circles, sounds crazy but we are all here know what each are experiencing is real. If you do try tea tree oil stand over the toilet when applying and see if you get some reaction in the water, if so then we may be on to something.

I'm only 15 and I've been dealing with this for about a year and a half, and to know that this will continue for decades is very depressing. I've read the comments and I will try them. I've had enough of waking up in the middle of the night, scratching til there's no tomorrow.

I am definitely going to give the oatmeal bath a try. I have been dealing with this for the past twenty years of my life, and had all but given up on getting treated, but finally have some good health coverage so I am keeping my fingers crossed! I know this may sound a bit odd to try, but let me give you some back story to my situation. I had tried all the treatments for eczema, jock itch, etc. using all the creams and powders to treat this while I was in the military to no avail. Many times I felt like just being dead this had affected me so much. One day I was so desperate to stop the pain and itching that I tried something rather unusual. It was winter and I was putting some carmex on my lips and the thought hit me, if it works for chapped lips why not chapped nuts? Now, of course this is no cure, but it has made the last ten years much more bearable!! The kind in the tube works best, I have no idea why, but it does. I tried other types of things like this when I was desperate and had no carmex, but I can tell you from experience the carmex tube is the only thing that works. It soothes the inflammation, and helps the itching a bunch. I only use it when the symptoms show up, flaky dry skin, or itching and it helps a ton. I have recently began taking a nightly benadryl to see if it will help with the night itching, only been two days and it shows some promise. I hope this helps some of you out there at least find some of what you have been looking for, I know it's not a cure, but so far it has been the best thing for me. A tube usually lasts me between a week to two and I suggest stocking up so you have backup for emergencies. Take care and good luck to all of my fellow sufferers of this horrible condition.

Montanabeefy1... you couldn't have described this hellish skin problem any better than if I had wrote it myself.  This is exactly what's going on with me right now, and I too was at the end of my rope until yesterday.  Itch creams, lotions, powders, vaseline and first-aid sprays are all well and fine until they stop working.  Then you're up a creek without a paddle.  But if you're walking around with open sores and dry skin, hunched over like Egor, I got two words for you:

OATMEAL BATH.

This is not by any means a cure-all, but if you're walking around with open cuts and it's impeding your daily activities, you need to get yourself some Aveeno (or CVS) oatmeal bath and get in it IMMEDIATELY.  It will last all day.  I'm only on Day 2 of the oatmeal bath treatment, but I feel freaking fantastic.  And this was just a day after I felt like literally taking a knife and cutting off my scrotum.  You will stil itch, but you can use some hydrocortisone cream as a chaser to keep that dry skin moisturized.  You WILL feel better.

All these posts are depressingly familiar! I have had the same condition for a few years now, and no satisfactory answer has been forthcoming from the medical profession. However, after years of experimenting with various creams, lotions, pills and prayers, I have finally found some relief in the form of simple baby powder. Applied after showering with doublebase shower cream, i moisturse with doublebase moisturising cream, these are available on prescrition only but keep everything calm for a few hours, depending on how hot I get. Once the familiar itching starts, I apply loads of baby powder (not ordinary talc), top up at regular intervals and apply loads at night. Relief at last! Hope this helps guys because its a horrible condition.

Yeah I i have been experiencing this for about 4 years now and its just getting worse. THE ITCHES are crazy. I have noticed it is spreading and the rashes are spreading over the scrotum and its driving me nuts and now I need to seriously find a way to figure out how to deal with this. I've been all over the forums and it seems there is no real cure yet, but from the best help that I think so far that will help us with this was the comment from "ed". on the topic:Rash with peeling dead skin on scrotum.

Drinking lots of water and try to break the habit of all the itching and getting a lot of vitamins. I think ed said to get a lot of Vitamin A, Zinc and Kelp? and some other stuff, but yeah I've never not gone scratching for like more than 2 days. So, i'll try my best.

And yeah I agree with joesinla that we can try to cross reference some of our daily habits. I'll start. haha. I don't think I eat particularly very healthy? I'm not overweight though. I'm 5'8 and about 130 pounds. I smoke cigarettes? Not sure if that affects anything. I used to play sports a lot, so yes I did sweat a lot. and oh yes one question if someone knows.
Should I try to keep my scrotum in a moist state? So, will applying cream everyday and not itching solve the problem?

I am having the same problem to no avail.  I've tryed Flygl and it actaully seems to help, but never completely goes away.  I really am considering castration :(

-I was thinking, maybe we can cross reference some of our daily habits to see if there is something we all have in common that may be causing this scrotum from hell.

Oh I have also considered the mental angle and have taken note of my state of mind, what's happening in my life at the time of the flare ups and there is no pattern.  Stress, no stress it doesn't seem to care.
