Sensitive Skin Red Rash Scrotum

after having protected sex with an escort I developed a severe red itching tingling prickly redness all over my scrotum. A few weeks later my wife was diagnosed with thrush (she felt it was not normal thrush as it was more an irritation than itching). Both of us were treated with a mono dose oral pill and candestan. My rash did not go away.I went to see a dermatoligist who told me it was not herpes (I was convinced it was)and prescribed a mix of daktarin and 0.1% hydrocortison cream. After more than a month the redness is still present and the whole scrotum in very sensitive, sometimes itching sometimes prickly, sometime tingling. It gets very red along the line where the scrotal skin joins the penis. The "join" line along my uncut foreskin is also very red. Some redness just below the head of the penis. I have almost painful erections every morning and sex feels uncomfortable due to the sensitivity of the area. My wife has compained again of some irritation and has an opaque liquid (looks a bit like semen) discharge. No itching though.Everything I have red on the forum suggests that it is all in my head. After thingking I had contracted herpes I went into a deep depression and lost 4kgs in three days but as no blisters came out and the dermatoligist assured me it wasn't I feel better but still have some concerns as to what could it be and am I affecting my wife

thanks

hey Gary

I do not know if you have found a cure or a reason for your condition. Mine has subsided though not gone completely. I also don't seem to see an increase in symptoms in my wife. The problem is that once you focus on the issue you seem to see so many things that could be related. So for me every twinge itch tingle makes me think I am showing symtoms of some sort. The only thing positive is that no one has been able to indentify it as anything related to an STD. I suppose it could be some rare affliction that has not been studied or identified. What did they say about your girlfriends viral infection?

regards

Hello,

Your situation is VERY similar to mine.  I believe I contracted "something" after having sexual relations with a girl (not an escort but someone I didnt know very well).  I have been tested for HIV, chlymydia, gonorea, syphilis,...all came back negative.

I had a persistent rash for 5 weeks that originated about 10 days after the incident.  I dont think it was herpes,...as the rash never blistered,....and I have had no other outbreaks.  My skin (8 months now after the fact) looks much better,...but not as it did b4 this incident.

I went to a dermatologist and he said "your penis looks healthy to me".

However,.....a girl who sucked me off 4 months ago,..got a bad viral infection 2 days after.  And recently,...a girl I had sex with appears to have just experienced what I did.

I too am at a loss,...as there is no medical disease synoymous with having a virus living on your penis.

My last thought has been "psoriasis",...but I dont know if this is sexually transmittable.

I would be VERY curious if you learn what you have,....bc,...it not being herpes,...and the fact that you are able to transmit it so readily (HPV takes 1 1/2 months)by mere skin contact sounds similar to my condition.  Please post any info. you have.

Thanks - you are of course correct about the anxiety - the only thing that worries me though are the "symptoms" my wife is having (she has no anxiety) - is that just coincidence?

Can\t be sure, although she can certainly pick up your anxiety.  Still, she should be evaluated to see whether she has anything else going on, regardless of what you have.

Constant redness is not a sign of herpes.  It may be a sign of mild irritation, which is clearly what your dermatologist was treating you for, or it may be a heightened attentiveness on your part to what your scrotum looks and feels like.  I would stay away from any medication, even weak cortisones, because they can perpetuate redness.  All I suggest is applying mild emollient lotions (Keri, Vaseline Intensive Care, or the equivalents in your area.)

The basic problem is you know as well as I: anxiety and guilt over your extramarital encounter.  If you can't reassure yourself after your doctor's visits, you'll need to consider dealing with that, perhaps through counseling.  That's a nondermatologic opinion, but I offer it for your consideration.

Best.
