sorry to say you are stuck with Schamburg disease as well as I am. i am divorced and was dating then this issue happened last summer. I now no longer date and there is no cure for this ugly disease. The other side of the coin is my sister lost her eye a few weeks ago to ocular melonma so my SD isnt that bad.

Has anyone with Schambergs even actually had the discoloration and spots go away? Has any one discovered a treatment that works.

Hi everyone! I was diagnosed with Schambergs about a week ago :( To be honest I left the dermatologist bawling my eyes out. I'm only 20 years old and did not want a chronic lifelong condition (although i realized I need to be thankful its not life threatening!) I am now taking multi vitamins and about 1500 mg of Vitamin C a day. I'm going to buy some rutin, does anyone know where I can find some?
I'm curious as to why more research hasn't been done on this...

I have joined the ranks of those afflicted with Schamberg's Disease. It began about a month and a half ago while on vacation and started as bright orange spots on my insteps. It has since spread up my feet to the font of my shins with rashiness some larger red spots. I am hoping it stops here and does not move higher. Pre-vacation I had an odd virus that left me with fever and some brief rashes on my legs. I am convinced that this and stress are responsible.
After reading many posts I am taking vitamin C and Rutin twice daily and hoping for some diminishing of the redness. The dermatologist has put me on a cortazone cream (which everyone says is not too good so maybe I will discontinue- although it cost me $61!)
The affected area feels like a light sunburn, a sort of tingle, not an itch.
Does anyone know if this comes and goes or if it will stick with me for the remainder of my life. I am not terribly vain, but it would be nice to be able to wear shorts or a skirt again without being embarrassed by all the spots.
Thanks for any information.

Hi, I have this disease since 2004, no cure is yet available, but Vitamin C and B clomplex can help. Topical Vitamin C  and fitoestimuline creams can help to control and slightly disapear the orange-rusty spots.
do not take too much sun, don't exceed in your exercise and keep your legs up at least 15 min daily. Hope this can help.

Two weeks ago, I noticed these reddish spots on my legs.  I had jsut finished helping a friend clean out a garden, and thought I had gotten into something to cause this.  My doctor just diagnosed it as Schamberg's Disease.  No cure, no non reason.  it's now on both legs from the bottom of my thighs to my ankles.  Doesn't itch or hurt .I take multivitamins , Vitamin C. Vitamin D. and have done this for years.  I don;t know if Chemo treatment years ago could have weaken my immune system.  Some say Chemo kills the cancer but does damage to other organs. Oh well. Hope it doesn't get any worse.  Just another hurdle to jump over. God Bless all of you ***@****

I've have been diagnosed with Schamberg's Disease (not itchy) by my Dermatologist and it ***** having this.  It is on my shins on both legs since January 2009.  At the same time, i was diagnosed with Pigmented Purpera (very itchy) on my back and arms and buttocks and back upper legs as well as eczema (very itchy).  These syptoms came all at the same time.  For the Schamberg's I've found that when I get out of the shower the red is really red.  To help deal with this disease, i've cut the toes out of some of my cotton socks and wear them at night while I try to sleep. This has deadened the red considerably, almost made it invisible.  I also wear, and am wearing right now, compression socks which are not uncomfortable, but can get hot if the weather is hot.  So I make sure I am in air conditioned building.
I became a vegetarian in May of 2008 and started eating Soy.  I am also peri-menopausal.  Geez...I sound like i'm dying!  I started taking lots of natural vitamins to help build up my immune system and help with my Thyroid, I also have Hypothyroidism.  Go figure...
I don't know what has caused my body to freak out like this, but I believe with positive thinking and getting my body back on a natural healthy track can't hurt.

I was recently diagnosed with Schamberg's disease. My dermatologist said I could use topical or systemic steroids. Since I am a resident physician, I know the side effects of steroids and would rather not take a chance at having any of the side effects, such as thinning skin, osteoporosis, or mania. I did a literature search an found a case report of a man with Schambergs who was treated with Vitamin C 500mg twice a day, and Rutoside (rutin) 50mg twice a day. ("Treatment of progressive pigmented purpura with ascorbic acid and a bioflavonoid rutoside" Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, March 2006). His Schamberg's went away after a few month. I was skeptical about simple vitamins have much therapeutic effect as my training has biased me toward thinking that only pharmaceutical agents are effective. I thought I would give Vitamin C and Rutoside a try anyway. I have started this treatment and now am on my second week. It has lessened the amount of petechiae I have on legs, and the lesions are lighter. Hopefully it will go away after a few months in time for summer.

I do have blood vessels that are visable on my legs and was told to wear support hose, which I cannot stand because of the heat and also I have a difficult time to
pull them on due to arthritic fingers.I take a multi vitamin plus I also take 50 mg. of B6. Someone told me it could help my fingers.  I've been taking it for over a year. I don't find that it has done anything for the spots I have on my legs.I wish someone would come up with some kind of solution.

I was diagnose with Schamberg disease also about 5 years ago. It's on the top of my feet and slowly going up my ankles and legs. I've tried different things. I've now started a muti vitanin that has B-6 in it. I had read that that's good for your red blood cells ( that's what hear that the spots are, leaking through your skin). Before I had gotten this I had just had a baby and I had that Preclampsia while I was pregnant( high blood pressure, swelling and too much protein. It seems that I got it about a year after. I also sit at this computer at night, I thought maybe it's causing poor circulation and that's what's causing it. I don;t know if this helps or not.
