Atypical bumps on head of penis

Dr.,

I am a 25 y/o male (6 sexual partners). After 2 months of dating, my gf and I decided to start having sex. We went to an STD clinic (April '08) and we both were tested for all STD's, both tested (-). She also told me that she has always had norm paps.  We had unprotected sex. One day in July '08, my genitals became very sensitive and I went to see my pcp. She stated that most likely some kind of chemical irritation; however, I had not done anything or used any product out of the normal routine. I change my underwear from boxers (which I had worn for 13 years) to briefs. After a week or two the irritation went away. This incident has made me pay more attention to my genitals. In August '08, I noticed the skin underneath & on the crown of my penis appeared bumpier than normal--similar to sandpaper. Also, one spot of skin on the edge of the crown had turned a white pigment.

So, i have begun examining my penis w/ a bright lamp and noticed that the skin on my penis head has gotten bumper; these changes are very subtle, but there are changes and new bumps appearing. These bumps are oval flesh colored and raised (1/32) inch. I went to see my pcp in October and they stated that the bumps appeared to be too small to be warts, but she was unsure. I would like to see a derm. about these bumps, but my pcp will not give me a referral.

Questions:
1. I am concerned that these bumps may be HPV bc my ex had a promiscuous past. I have started dating a new amazing woman. I really cared about her and want to be responsible. Do these bumps look like HPV? If not, what could they be?
2. What are your thoughts of oral sex and these types of bumps?
3. I am self-conscious about these bumps and am interested in removing them, freezing them. What are your thoughts?
4. I have read from the cdc website that the body typically clears HPV in 2 years. What are your thoughts and experiences with clearance?

Ty!

Errata: The previous post by steve830 was actually made by myself on a roommates computer. I just wanted to apologize for the error. I had just obtained picture of my particular case and wanted your opinion. Thank you.

Dr.,

Update: I just had my Dermatology appointment. Three of the very small bumps (less than 1mm diameter) were right next to each other, and he thought they looked suspicious but not necessarily warts. The doctor was unsure whether they were warts or not; however, he still froze the two areas that had bumps. He stated that if the bumps do not return, then they mostly likely were not warts. He also told me that if they return, then he would believe they are HPV wart related and i should have them frozen again.

Thank you for your help Dr. Rockoff. I feel much better. Whether or not these markings are warts, I will feel better once they are out of sight. Thanks again.

If you have a minute, here is a picture of my particular case. I was finally able to get a picture. Unfortunately, the picture is of poor quality, but the same type of hard to see bumps.

Dr.,

Thank you for your reply. From your response it sounds like these bumps are nothing to worry about. I just wanted to make an errata. Those pictures i attached were not mine, but some pictures which i found online. My condition is pretty much the same; however, i have also noticed a build up of skin around my urethral opening--basically, the skin is wrinklier. I assume this maybe due to friction. I have made an appointment for February 2. I am sure that they are nothing.

Thank you again

These do not look like HPV warts.  They look like bumpy penile skin that you are looking at way too closely and photographing way too often.  If they are not warts, they do not require that you change your sexual patterns at all, and they neither can nor should be removed.  However, a proper diagnosis means a physical exam in person.  This should be done by a dermatologist.  I suggest you tell your PCP that his or her diagnosis did not assure you sufficiently.  If he or she won't give you a referral, either pay for a single visit out of pocket, or find a new PCP.  You really need to put this behind you.

Best.
