Hello,
These white spots are due to pityraisis versicolor. It is a common skin infection caused by the yeast Malassezia furfur. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines.
Most cases of fungal infections respond to over-the-counter products, which contain any of several basic ingredients: miconazole, tolnaftate, terbinafine, ketaconazole and clotrimazole. You can consult a pharmacist and get any cream or lotion containing these ingredients. Some of them are Lamisil, Monistat derm, Mycelex, and Nizoral.
The brown spots are due to solar lentigenes. The only way to prevent age spots is to use liberal amounts of sunscreen before the age of forty, avoid the sun, and wear protective clothing. The newest treatment for age spots is an alpha hydroxy acid gel or beta hydroxy acid gel. Retin-A cream, alpha hydroxyacid peels, and liquid nitrogen therapy are other options.
I hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
Thank you for your quick response.
I do not fit the age bracket you mention, as I am 49 years old; however I do live in Phoenix, AZ where it is intensly hot. I will get some of the recommendations you mentioned for my white spots. Does this take a long time to even out with the rest of my skin?
As far as the brown spots, I due use a lot of sunscreen when I go into the sun; which is not very often anymore. What SPF do you recommend? The treatments that you recommened are they available over the counter or would I need to see a doctor?
Hello,
The topical antifungal treatments mentioned are available over the counter. Also for the sunscreens choose a non perfumed, hypolallergenic sunscreen with a minimum spf of 30.Also apply the sunscreen atleast half an hour before going out in the sun and reapply liberally in case of perfuse sweating.
I hope that helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.Kind regards.
Is the sun and tanning bed also causing the wrinkles on my face between my eyebrows and from the bottm of my nose to my curve of my lips, I think that is called the smile lines. Although this maybe due to age also since I am 49. Is there also something for this over the counter?
Hello,
These wrinkles are age related in your case.Fine wrinkles can be decreased by adequate moisturisation and hydration.Bur for deep wrinkles, botox shots, microdermabrasion, dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid, collagen and Radiesse and laser treatment are used .I would suggest you to discuss about these treatment options with your dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
